Might be worth posting on the East Dulwich Forum?

I'd be interested in replies as this will be on our list when the time comes.

What negative things have you heard? The school is hugely oversubscribed so I haven’t come across any concerns being raised about it before?

Coward123 · 06/03/2019 09:34

Just kid stuff really but hey it’s kids that go there. “East Dulwich is the bad Charter School, North Dulwich is the good one”. So couldn’t help being worried this was said from North Dulwich Charter School Pupils.

How would they know? They don't go to the East Dulwich one, and they are children. That's a bald statement and you haven't given any facts to base it on. It's all a bit "my dad's bigger than your dad!" - it's their school!

It's a new school, so you can't compare results between them yet, but it's got a Good Ofsted report and obviously it's part of the same trust as the North Dulwich one.

Coward123 · 06/03/2019 10:31

Yes Good, North Dulwich Excellent. No results available.

I don’t claim it’s bad, I stated my Granddaughter heard some negative stuff and is a bit worried and therefore I am. I was asking people what their knowledge of the School was.

But thank you anyway.

Oh, that’s really nothing. I thought you heard something specific. That kids at the rival charter who have no experience of ED are bragging theirs is the better school is just petty teenage nonsense.

Instead of playing into it, try to reassure your granddaughter that’s is a very popular school with a brand new building and facilities and that both schools have the same management.

Coward123 · 06/03/2019 11:33

Yes, your probably right. Thank you.

Teenage nonsense!

I know a teacher and one of the SLT and they are of extremely high standard, the teacher says it is the best school she has worked in.

What is your DGD 'very worried' about , exactly?

I don't think you can compare the 2. Firstly... Charter ED is a new school and not as established as North Dulwich which has been consistently rated excellent since 2006 and is hugely oversubscribed. I don't take OFSTED inspections into account too much but seeing as it has come up; The OFSTED inspection was done whilst they were on the old site which was very small and wasn't representative of the new school. Granted an OFSTED report isn't about the facilities but i think everybody and everything felt a bit cramped there. Also the reason why it was Good is a) There are no results to go by just yet and b) there was a note about provision of SEN and that was it.

It is a very mixed school like most London Secondary schools. You could argue that the North Dulwich Charter (given its proximity to Dulwich Village, Herne Hill etc) is going to be made up of less of a diverse mix of pupils but that's a huge assumption on my part. The whole reason there was such a desperate need for another secondary school in the area is because areas like East Dulwich, North Peckham and Camberwell weren't being sufficiently served.

My DD is at East Dulwich Charter and is very happy there. Yes it's a work in progress, as are the facilities but I am very happy with what I have seen so far. I am hugely appreciative that (due to lots of hard work by others who campaigned to get a new school in East Dulwich) that the school is there and that my DD is in a brand new school that she can (now) walk to. It has the makings of a fantastic school and has a very strong PTA there and sense of community. Indeed it's hugely oversubscribed so I would feel very lucky on your DGD's behalf.

That was very helpful and I do feel so much less worried now.
