When eltham college go co Ed in 2020 will this mean less boys are likely to be accepted for 2022 and the intakes after? Just wandering as was thinking of that school as option but thinking they may want to accept more girls than boys to make it an even co Ed school? Will boys be at a disadvantage?

My understanding is they will take an additional class from that year on but that the intake will be fairly 50:50. That is why they chose to start at one particular entry year rather than end up with a few girls here and there in upper years.

Unless they state on their admissions code that they specify 50:50 boys/girls, then they cannot discriminate applications and ‘count’ how many they admit. Applications will be considered on their other criteria, such as their entry tests. Like similar schools nearby (Colfes etc.), the split fluctuates/will fluctuate, in each year group.

Okay didn't know this, though having just been through the Colfes process head said it was roughly 50:50 and scholarships also would be awarded 50:50.

I'd be surprised if numbers of girls applying to Eltham would not be lower initially as I've heard girls' parents say they would not want to apply until co-Ed is more established.

There is lots of info on the Eltham website about the switch.

Even with an extra class that’s only approx 20 pupils ... if they want co Ed they would need a higher percentage of girls ... so if my son sits exam and would have passed say 2 years ago will there be more competition now?? And will they subtly want more girls in order to attract more in future??

So... to understand your post.. junior school ..majority will continue and pass to senior.., then one class intake would be approx 30 but around 15 boys only will be accepted...so only around 15 boy places???
