Hull collegiate, entrance exams

Can anyone give me any info on this school, dd in year 5 state primary, doing very well across the board, we were considering having her sit the entrance exams for collegiate, and see if we get an offer of fee assisted place, as far as I can tell it's not a super selective school but to be offered a place they have to hit the national average standardised scores this is for full fee paying applicants, I know the bursary offers are subject to the highest academic scores and means tested. I'm just wanting to know what the format of the tests are, are they 11+ ?is 11+ harder than standard assesment tests? Should she be doing practice tests and papers etc. Just not sure how much I should push this or take a see how you do, no harm applying approach. Any advice welcome.

May ask how you got on? I could have written this post - in need of some info about the same thing. I'm sure school (based in York) will tell me no prep required, but I feel i will do my DC a disservice to send them in with kids who have either been tutored to within an inch of their lives. At the very least, I'd like him to be familiar with the question style.

Entry to one of the York schools will be far more competitive than the school iOP refers to. It's not known for being highly academic

Hull collegiate is mixed ability so yes not super selective for fee payers, however for bursary kids I think they have to do better than just passing the entrance test.
So after applying for bursary we dont think we'll be able to afford it anyway as its means tested so we wont get full 85% but as already partway through the application we had dd sit the test anyway, no prep or revision at all, it was the iseb pretest, lo and behold just got confirmation today that she passed it and invited to go to interview. They know she cant go unless fee assisted so I'm assuming she must have done well in the test to ask her for interview. Not holding my breath but will be interesting to see what if anything she is offered.

Good luck to your DD. I know two children there on 100% fee remission as Collegiate need to haul up their academic results. Also two children there on reduced fees, one for music ability and one for sport. Do your research. Wink

Op, not hull but a friend of mine was offered a place at a well regarded indi near me but not a bursary offer and went back to the school and told them what offer she would need to accept. She had to wait until all of the bursary offers they had already made accepted / declined but they then made her a very attractive bursary offer. I think it can pay to be very proactive.

ewwsprouts the 100% fees are academic scholarships and available to anyone sitting the entrance, so all 40 of them are up for those, but we've been told that maximum bursary is 85% and means tested and I dont think our income is low enough for the full whack.
I highly doubt she's top % to get the scholarship, and shes not musical or sporty at all so no chance for those either.
seven that's good to know, I'll keep that in mind. There were only about 40 kids sitting the test and most of them are already fee paying prep pupils there so there didnt seem to be tons of kids in competition for the bursaries.
We find out after the 27th so I'll come back and let you know how it went.
