Tube travel to school

Is a 45 minute Tube travel without change (plus 10 min walk from home and 5 minute walk to school) ok for an 11 year old child?
I do this everyday myself and am OK about it.

I would hate my child to do that. We live in London and one of my main priorities when looking for a secondary school was ease of commute.

I think an hour total travel time is a bit too long
Where do the other kids travel from to school? If they are all local and you are not it can be a pain
Also when they make friends with kids who live 30 mins travel the opposite way from school

Mine travelled/s @1 hr door to door - she’s been fine . Some days travels with an instrument too . It was however her choice as she could’ve gone to a school a 10minute walk away . During tube strikes she’s just used a combination of buses/ walking and even the boat from Putney Pier to the City . She uses travelling time to talk to friends , read a book and do homework not necessarily in that order .

Yeah, our DS1 did it for years. First with one of us and then by himself. No worries at all, he’d often gotten all his homework out of the way by the time he got home.

The school is just so amazing and he is so happy there and loves it, so it was definitely worth it.

We live much closer now, but he doesn’t mind either way. The commute has never been an issue for him.

I'd be most concerned that it would severely limit their ability to socialise with their friends, who presumably could be living an extra 30-45 minutes in the other direction?

We haven’t found it to limit socialising with friends, usually he’d have a friend come home with him from school, they’d do homework on the tube, then hang out at home and then the friend would spend the night and they’d head in to school the next day together. And vice versa. No issues.

And re activities after school I think that depends on the school. DS1 has long days, but they do sport every day in school, music most days, and those who play instruments do it on lesson time in school. So once they’re out, they’re out. No real need for activities after school.
