Channing wait list

My DD has been offered a place on the Channing wait list, does anyone know if there is usually a lot of movement on this list or do they over offer? I know they said there would be fewer places this year. TIA.

I don’t want to cast aspersions on your friends truthfulness, but I know the poster on this thread is v stressed about her DD place on waiting lists and I didn’t want her to feel as though there was a secret numbered list, which her DD is not part of, only adding to her stress.

Just been so stressed to be honest. I did not personally go through the schooling system here before, and so I am not sure if I am missing things. I just feel I have been waiting since December, first to get the exams done then see if she passed and now to see how the WL comes through. Just feel on edge. Thanks for all the very helpful information.

Stressedmom:

  1. Did you email Channing saying that you are in a position to accept and pay a deposit straight away?
  2. Did you apply to your local state school? If not, apply now
  3. Call other schools that Might have places (St Margaret, north bridge house senior). I assume you live in North London
  4. If you are at a prep school, what's the HM doing? Mine has been super helpful

Pm if you want

There is also a girls’ independent non-selective school near Oxford Circus called Queens. I know little about it apart from it exists.

Even if you haven’t applied for state schools you can still do so. You will then get placed on the waiting lists of your preferred state schools in admissions criteria order-it won’t matter now that you’re late.

Lol - Queens College, if that is what BH is thinking of, is most definitely not 'non-selective' these days. They are part of the Consortium that will have announced their results a couple of weeks' ago.

That said, as a poster mentioned on another thread, it is possible that some schools, even competitive ones, will have a place or two to fill later on as people have emotionally and financially committed to other options. Some of the central London schools where you find expat families may find their plans change for whatever reason. It could be worth staying in touch.

Also, try St Paul's Cathedral School. A friend's DC went there for two years after the 11+. Girls admitted for the last two years (at least.)
