Home tutoring for 11+

We live in a GS area, DC is fairly bright (to us) but I don't really buy-in to tutoring etc.

If we were to home tutor to get used to the exam format etc how would I do this? Are there specific books? Is it the standard verbal/numerical/abstract reasoning stuff? Do the types of 11+ differ depending on the areas/schools?

I really don't have a clue about this!

There was a thread about this recently which contained lots of good tips for resources. I can’t find it (and don’t know how to link to it anyway) but I’m sure someone cleverer will be along soon!

Thank you - that would be great if someone could point me in the right direction!

Search your region on the www.elevenplusexams.co.uk website - it’s full of valuable info and some slightly bonkers parents. You need to know what will be tested in the school exam and then buy books and papers to work through. Good luck.

I will advise you to teach him the key stage 2 curriculum because this will give him the foundation and the skills he will need to tackle any questions . If you start to work on past questions now or related question papers he won’t actually understand the concept . With my DS I make sure he got the skill first for all the subjects then we started working on any questions we can laid out hands on . By so doing , you are not teaching him to the test and he can face any question given the right skill already developed .
