Just wanted to check with someone who has kids in either of two to understand which might be a better option for my child. Any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks.

we have a DC at Radnor and are very pleased with the school. It is a
happy school where the kids are stretched and challenged academically.
I know of 4 families who chose Radnor over Ibstock and are happy with
their choice. But, it completely depends on your child and which they
(and you!) prefer!

We have a daughter at IPS and she absolutely loves it!

I don’t have any experience of Radnor House, so can only tell you of our experiences of Ibstock Place.

I would say that it is not an easy ride for the kids there as they are expected to work hard and do well academically. Considering that they accept a broad ability cohort each year they do remarkably well with some fantastic results in maths and sciences (97-100% A* A) at GCSE.

They have a fantastic house tutor system which intergrates year 7-10 really well. The teachers really get to know each individual child very well and must discuss them all individually across all subjects, as the parent evenings are always exceptionally insightful.

I would say that it is a strict school and it expects good behaviour from all of its pupils but the rules are not unreasonable and I love that they can’t have their mobile phones switched on or in sight! It allows the kids to actually ‘chat’ and have fun at break times instead of being on social media! But if you have a child that would worry too much about getting detentions than this may not be the school for you.

Communication with teachers is excellent in my opinion and they respond promptly if there are any problems.

The co-curricular programme is wide ranging and there is always something to do at lunchtime or after school. I would say drama and music are the schools biggest assets. Both departments are outstanding and the quality of productions/concerts are truly amazing.

We have been very pleased with IPS so far and it has been a great confidence building environment for our daughter.

I have a DC at Radnor - they have gone from strength to strength and we have been exceptionally happy there. Good solid GCSE and A Level results this year with over 50% a*a at GCSE and 100% pass at A Level - ranked in top 5% nationally for value added at A level as well. A good mix of normal kids who seem really happy and supported. Teachers are enthusiastic and great parent communication - a broad and accessible academic enrichment program and fab sports facilities - rowing is a big sport being on the river and they use St Mary's university sports grounds and from September have announced a new partnership with TeddingtonCC. I've heard that entry was competitive this year - but don't know how it's planned out.
