Amanda Spielman, head of Ofsted has asked Damian Hinds to investigate whether the philosophy behind Steiner schools is the reason they are so poor.

“We will continue our work with Ofsted to act quickly to ensure no pupil experiences a substandard education.”

Such a shame that the government won't put it's money where it's mouth is. Think what could have been done for the education system if the estimated £1000 per person in the UK on Brexit had been put into schools instead.

Gosh - shoehorning Brexit into anything!

I think the main problem with Steiner schools is that it is such a rigid and undifferentiated curriculum. I hadn't realised there was a high level of underachievement though. If they do find the causes of systemic underperformance are inherently linked to anthroposophy, what would that mean for the schools?

@chantico It is incredibly rigid, particularly when it comes to areas such as art. However, it’s managed to get the opposite reputation and people think of it as being all about free expression, which I think gets in the way of a proper evaluation of its methods and the reasoning behind them.
