GCSEs privately for this summer

Is it too late to find a place to do GCSEs this summer for a 16yo?
Surrey/Sussex/London?
How and where to try?

Exams start the beginning of May. Has the student already studying for these GCSEs.

I doubt it's too late, but you might be hit with a late entry fee, I'm not sure what point they kick in.

Loads of private colleges in London do the, David Game, that kind of place.

A "crammer" perhaps like Bellerbys?

OhShootShootSHOOT · 24/01/2019 12:29

Yes he's taken the courses but various exam boards, I'm not even sure yet but I can find out.
Some have coursework, some of which he has done at current school.
Late entry fee is no problem. London would be a last resort, Horsham would be ideal, but needs to accept boys.
I'll look at Bellerbys thanks.

Coursework could be an issue if entering as a private candidate with a new centre.

Would his current school not enter him as an external candidate?

OhShootShootSHOOT · 24/01/2019 12:44

I'll know more at 3pm. I'm expecting to be "advised to find a place more suited to his needs". I hope to be wrong
His Dad is expecting a useful meeting about the way forward at the school.
Does an external candidate affect their league table results?

Google 'AQA Private candidates' and the page there lists centres by county that accept private candidates - if they accept for AQA then they often do for other boards too.
Be aware that not all specifications are open to private candidates - often those that involve non-exam assessment (coursework) are not.
The deadline for summer entries is 21st February so late fees do not apply until after then.

Could there be an issue with Science?
The teachers need to sign to say the candidate has done all (18?) practicals.

Without knowing the background (I'm guessing some serious behaviour issues but could be way off), I would be asking that your DS to be allowed to stay 'on roll' even if not attending lessons, and to be allowed to sit his exams at school (even if in isolation?). Could that work for you, with some private tutors if needed?
