Secondary school advice

Hello
I'd like to hear some advicefor my DC's secondary school.
Since my DH and I am foreigners and don't have close English friends we know very little and limited about all school information and system.
DC is in year6 and already finished all the grammar school exams with good results. We dind't do private schools because we're in a position which isn't possible to afford the fee but also wouldn't be entitled to big amount of bursaries.
DC has been always top in the state primary and once a week tutor was good enough to stretch her ability. We think her place from local grammar would be guaranteed according to her high score. Recently watching many of her friends were invited for last stage of top private including SPGS, LEH, WHS, I kind of regret and think if it was the right choice.
Many of them are expecting full bursaries which isn't our option.
Would it have been still worthy for my DC to empty our bank and put our saving on her education? Would she be much more inspired and benefited at private school?
If your DC is in grammar and achieve as good as ones in top private, please share your stories and how you could motivate and inspire them.
I know it's all too late but I still want your experience and advie.

Friend's DC was at a good comp. Came away with near perfect GCSEs.

Honestly, don't tie yourself in knots. If your DC is bright enough to get into a grammar school there is no reason why they shouldn't achieve well there.

My DD has just done her GCSEs in a normal comprehensive. She got one of the best set of results in the entire country!

Thank you, TeenTimesTwo and redyawn. I was a bit down today although I felt happy for the girls who achieved well. Because while they had been tutored heavily since reception and worked over 4hrs per day, mine did as good as them at school and exam without that much tution and work. I blamed myself for not offering her such opportunities. Envy
