Alleyn's 11+ 2019

Vargas · 12/01/2019 17:07

I have seen threads for Whitgift/Trinity, Dulwich College and others but I haven't seen much about Alleyn's.

My dd sat the exam last Tuesday. She found it "not too bad" but definitely got one of the later Maths questions wrong.

Just wondering if anyone else on MN waiting to hear about interviews?

Thanks MumofLL. My dd was in an earlier group and I wasn't sure how late the interviews went on the day. I would love to be a fly on the wall when they are having their meetings about who they give offers to!

I reckon they give offers/waitlist to the vast majority of the interview candidates. That could be one reason for interviewing fewer this year - as they took few (if any?) girls from the waiting list last year.

The only 2 kids I know who didn't get even a waitlist after an interview were cases where the Prep school head had intervened on their behalf after they were initially not shortlisted.

Strange Jags is sending offers a week early this year? Thought the Dulwich Foundation schools were all aligned on dates?

Vargas · 05/02/2019 19:14

Just checked JAGS key dates, letters go out on the 7th for 11+. Maybe they are aligning with other girls' schools?

Alleyns have advised that (due to the high uptake of 11+ offers for Sept 2018) they are stopping the 13+ process.

So interviewing fewer this year does make sense as there's no point interviewing 150 if you only need to make 100 offers (say) to fill your 75 places.

MTRT · 06/02/2019 23:13

it seems such a long wait for the results!

Vargas · 09/02/2019 17:32

Good news for us yesterday - dd offered place at JAGS but no scholarship. She's pleased but even more keen on Alleyn's than ever...cross fingers. Time is passing SO slowly.

I'm really surprised that Alleyn's dropped 13+ so suddenly. We know a child who was planning to sit it the year after next rather than 11+ this year. Oops.

JAGs do quite a cool thing where you can take 11+ and then defer entry until 13+. Not suitable for us but will be great idea for some.

Congratulations Vargas! I'm very happy for you, must have been big relief.
We are still waiting, fingers crossed, 7 more days to go.

DarlingOscar · 11/02/2019 08:36

Well done to mini Vargas!

The 13+ was only ever a small entry but yes dropped v suddenly. Good news is that the scholarships reserved for 13+ will now be awarded at 11+ - which must mean this year's Y7 will not only be bigger but will have a higher proportion of scholars.

Good luck all.

Vargas · 12/02/2019 09:54

Thanks Oscar, good luck everyone, 3 more days (not that I'm counting Wink).

Best of luck to you all today!

Vargas · 15/02/2019 12:41

mini Vargas has place at Alleyn's - so pleased, can't wait to tell her.

Best of luck all!

Well done to mini Vargas, bagged 2 offers ! Good news for us today, got place offered with scholarship Smile!

Vargas · 15/02/2019 21:31

Fantastic news MTRT! Now comes the choosing....

MTRT · 15/02/2019 22:18

In parallel got offers from NBH, Francis Holland and St James too. Any pointers on how to choose? We have recently moced in the country and still in temporary accommodation. Obviously Alleys seem academically strong with good extracurricular as well.

Vargas · 15/02/2019 22:35

Does your DC have a preference? I don't know the other schools but prob worth revisiting your top two or three.

OP posts:
MTRT · 16/02/2019 07:45

Thanks! Strong preference to Alleyn's. However if we move to Dulwich we both will have long commute to the city.
Have decided on which one to pick up?

Vargas · 16/02/2019 08:41

We are definitely taking Alleyn’s offer, dd doesn’t even want to look round schools again and I’m happy with that!

OP posts:
Diagonallley · 16/02/2019 13:21

Anyone not yet received Alleyn’s post like us?

MTRT · 16/02/2019 14:26

If you haven't received any letter, suggest try and call school

89fomveg · 16/02/2019 16:01

We haven’t received our letter from Alleyns either but I rang yesterday and the registrar kindly told us the outcome. Fingers crossed for good news for you.

Diagonallley · 16/02/2019 16:30

WE rang yesterday as well but as usual they are not very helpful apart from saying it was posted on Thursday and we should receive it today

MTRT · 16/02/2019 23:55

Good luck to those still waiting to receive the letter!

Does anyone know what lower school timings are?

MumOfLL · 19/02/2019 16:19

Congratulations to all DC! well done.

DS got an offer from Alleyns and a scholarship offer from St Dunstan's. We are going to visit both schools again. Really hard to make decision as DS 1st choice is the other offer from all boys school! even though he quite like the idea that he could be an academic scholar and save mummy some money. Wink

We are also waiting for the result from grammar schools. We could just manage if we accept an offer from one of private school, but still concern about Brexit. At this point, is anyone worried about Brexit that would have an effect on family financial circumstances? I do. Confused ...

Vargas · 19/02/2019 20:29

MTRT. - do you mean timings for school day? Nothing unusual I think, around 8.30 to 3.45, they finish slightly earlier on a Thursday,

Mumofll - Brexit is a definite worry. I think if we lived near a grammar school and dd got in we would be very tempted!

Hi, I just wondered if anyone knew how many academic scholarships Alleyns offered this year and what the amounts typically were. I know 38 were shortlisted for academic scholarship interview. I just wondered if all of those shortlisted were offered something?
