Just that really. First time around for us and feeling a bit nervy. Interested in any hand-holding or words of wisdom from anyone whose DC have done it before.

It isn’t just about the exam, it is about how the child interacts in the group. DD sat a few years ago. It was a hard decision to turn down the place that was offered as it is a great school. DD only knew one other taking the test, this other girl said she was confident she did well in the exam (we don’t know for sure) and was flummoxed when not offered a place, DD told me that that girl was less than kind in the group session.

Good luck..... but if you don't get the rault you want, it's. It the end of the world. My DD1 did the Kent and Bexley 11+. She didn't come close to passing either, so went to a comprehensive. She has just done her GCSEs and got all 8s and 9s.

Don‘t be put off by the numbers. Loads of people take the Sevenoaks exam but then accept a grammar school place if offered.

Thanks all. PettsWoodParadise, that's both interesting and reassuring (DS can be a bit quiet but is always kind). Redyawn, that's great that your DD did so well, and you're right, there are lots of good options. Williteverend, thanks. I've told DS to try not to be daunted by all the other kids and just to be himself. Hopefully the experience of doing the 11+ will have got him over the first time jitters in terms of sitting tests. I've told him it doesn't matter either way, he's already going to have a really good state option. We might well end up being one of the people you mention who turn down Sevenoaks for a grammar - but on the other hand I would really like him to go coed, and I love the IB, and it does feel like a really special school... As you said PettsWood, its a hard decision, so if he doesn't get in, at least we won't have to make it I guess!
