No sat’s and gcse

My son didn’t sit his sat’s. And has been told he will have no predicated grades for his GCSEs because of this.

Why what how is this even a thing. What does a test he did five years ago have anything to do with his grade for gcse?

How do I go about finding out what his grade would be.

Mine didn't do SATS (overseas at time) and was given mid-range targets and put in the middle set at academically high-ranking school. The school wouldn't recognise the standardised test results we brought from his overseas school Hmm

He's in the run up to end of school now and he's exceeding these 'targets' in every subject, and many of his teachers have commented he's in the wrong set, but we haven't asked him to be moved as he's doing well where he is, has a good group of friends, isn't under the same pressure as those in higher sets and the set doesn't prevent him from doing well in his GCSEs.

His teachers should be able to predict his grades based on how he's done over the course so far. He might not have target grades though, which are usually based on SATs. This is nothing to worry about at all on your part though!

My DD started secondary school last year and as she didn't have SAT results (She was in an a independent primary) has a MET grade of 5 across the board despite being in top set for everything where her peers have target grades of 7+ or 8+. I have asked when (if!!) these will be amended but initially got no answer then at a parents evening the head of year said they would be changed next year. So far in year 8 we have had no reports or parents evening so it remains to be seen what they give her this year.

My only real concern is that teachers will look at her MET and as long as she is on target for that won't push her as much or have as high expectations of her but we'll see. It annoys her as she feels her targets should be the same as her friends who she is getting similar tests scores to.
