Orthodontic Headgear Secondary School

DD (14 years old) has had orthodontic reverse-pull headgear for about 3 months now only wearing at night times. However, following a recent trip to the orthodontist, where apparently she has not been wearing it enough, she now wants her to wear it 24/7 and thus have it wired in so it is permanent and she is completely unable to remove it. I am conscious of the effect this will have at school for her, although of course the benefits are massive. What are your all thoughts on this?

At 14 your daughter would be competent legally to consent or not to the procedure. The orthodontist is legally and professionally obliged to gain her informed consent. I think you are underestimating the psychological impact of this.

I had to wear it at school. Took it out to eat though - I cannot imagine it being wired I that must be awful.

I don't have a single issue with self esteem or bullying.

Hmm. Just googled mine wasn't reverse pull. Nit sure I would have worn that to school tbh.

I guess it is all dependant on how bad her teeth actually are? If it is purely cosmetic I would only do if she was really keen herself.
