Does such a thing exist? Not private? Something like Kings Maths School which we looked at for ds1 which is state selective and totally specialise in maths. But for talented musicians? I want ds2 to do A levels at a 6th form (including music A level of course) but he is extremely talented some am wondering about something more specialist? My googling has turned up performing arts college but this is not what I am looking for.

Thank you Mary. However, the rhythm studio is completely the wrong genre of music for him. Same with Music technology and btechs. I do appreciate the response though!

would it be possible for him to do a normal school with lots of extra music on the side? This is what DD is doing and she likes this because it helps her not become too pigeon holed and meet lots of people with different interests. However, she wants to do music at university not conservatoire so different priorities. So she does maths, further maths music and English + EPQ (music related) at our local comp, then a junior department doing 2 instruments and composition and a national ensemble (a prestigious one)
One benefit of going to a comp is leadership opportunities: they won’t get an awful lot of exceptional musicians so that gives your DS an opportunity to shine and try his hand at conducting/directing, which may benefit him in the long run imo
Good luck!

Thanks musicaldaughter2 - that is sort of what I am after I think. A good 6th form which is academic and offers a good level of subjects but also a strong music department. He does get a huge amount of music "on the side" so I don't think I want a specific music school for him. But I do want a school with a good music department. So many of the colleges I looked at had strong academics and offered music A level, but their results showed that maybe 4 kids took it and the results were terrible. That does not inspire confidence!

@echobelly I just saw your comment about Claremont. I know of it because of Brent Music Service so I just checked their website. They don't list music A level at all as being offered. Am I missing something? I can't see anything about a music aptitude place either. Is your daughter going for 6th form or is it GCSE? Thanks!

West London Free School might be worth a look. The sixth form is very close to Hammersmith station so it is easy to get to fron most places. The music and history (which also runs the politics A level) departments are both very strong.

It has only had one set of A level results which look pretty good to me, Their entrance requirements are only 5 GCSEs at 6 and above.
