Eton KS - how do they select?

Hi

Does anyone know if selection of the scholars is based strictly on the aggregate score of the 4 compulsory and 3 best optional papers? Or is it possible for someone with a lower aggregate score to be selected over someone with a higher aggregate score? If yes, under what scenario would that be? I know the responses might be speculative but hoping that someone has some insights. Thank you.

I don’t think it’s strictly on aggregate score - or at least (probably)wasn’t 15years ago. They accepted some people who r v good at maths, but maybe less good at other stuff.

Thanks for your input. I asked because I thought I read somewhere that they are looking for someone with demonstrated talent, even if only in one particular area, which may result in a math genius being selected over someone with a higher aggregate score but no outstanding score in any subject. Well, just not sure if it works for or against my son!

The past papers are challenging and quite cool - Though horrible so sit in exam conditions. Long ago most people who got ‘on roll’ were from a small number of prep schools who were good at preparing kids. If the school isn’t used to it you try and get some tutors (at least maybe for access to more past papers). But don’t worry about not getting in - it doesn’t determine future academic success and now at least the financial incentive is not as great as before.

The past papers are so tough and I can imagine the exam conditions - between 3 - 4.5 hours a day for 3 days. Thanks for the reminder re not to worry about not getting it - sometimes it is the parents who want it more than the son.

why would anybody worry about not getting Eton KS, are those parents mad? LOL....

I remember them saying that they look out for spiky talent. I don’t think one can succeed if a total suffer in a key subject but having a couple of real stat subjects I think is more likely to succeed than being jolly good across the board

Sorry - star subjects

Well, the exams start this weekend. Good luck to all the boys taking them.
