Tips to encourage revision year 10?

So my DS is in Yr10 and I just don’t think the school is giving enough work and that my son is doing enough work outside of school to help him revise/prepare for GCSE’s. DS likes to do as little as he can get away with tbh.
I want to help but each time I discuss it or aaproach the subject I’m moaning! (I’m really not)
HELP!
What approaches have you taken....do you have any tips for me ?
Thanks

I don't think he really needs to be revising for GCSEs as they are a very long way away - he will only just have started the course for most of them. Surely what he needs to be doing at this stage is doing all his homework, revising for any tests in school and keeping on top of his work.

Exactly what on top says. Too much revision now means burn out by the time actual exams come about.

I think preparing revision notes or cards for end of topic tests can be useful. I’m not sure I could make dd do it though if she wasn’t motivated - I would probably say homework has to come first, before midweek or weekend sport.

When he has half termly/termly/end of topic tests encourage him to make summary notes/flash cards he can refer back to later.

Make sure any test are annotated with correct answers once they've gone through them in class - good revision aid later.

Build up quote banks for English lit and lists of useful equations for Science.

.. at least that's what I'm encouraging DS to do, whether he is is another thing!

All the top performing students on YouTube advise writing notes as you do a topic. That way you can clarify anything you don't understand now rather than later when it isn't fresh in your mind.

It is always classed as eating an elephant, if you take small bites it is totally achievable, if you leave it to the end it is harder.

Ds1 (now year 11) made notes on the computer meaning he could copy/paste onto flashcards for tests. Especially useful for history which is word heavy.

I would advise watching YouTube videos, there are thousands for each GCSE topic which helps to cement ideas.

Thanks for your replies everyone.
I think that’s what he needs to do, prep for revising later. But I’m not seeing much at all being done.
He’s bright and I just want him to reach his potential. I’m not going to push him overly I just want him to do more than the bare minimum.
He has mocks in November and then more mocks in March.
The school doesn’t give him much home work I think he should be doing extra to keep up and on top of his subjects.
He has his real English literature GCSE in may so we need to get started on that revision straight away.
School has said he needs to be revising now.
