Secondary school for a above average boy

Dear mums,
I am looking for recommendations for secondary independent schools for my son in SW London. He is a well behaved, popular boy who does well in his current prep school, but he is not at the very top. He is good in math but struggles in English. He is very interested in Science, very good tennis player and in the B team for football. His mean cat score this year was 120 , quantative being highest 129. He does between 75-85 % in his mock exams for math and 55-60% in English.
Which school would be great to bring the best out of him? Thank you so much for your recommendations.

What do his current school recommend?

If he’s strong only at maths, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s ‘above average’ when the overall performance is looked at.

He only struggles in English, all his other subjects are good. Also his Cat results are all above average between 116-129. His school wants him to stay until 13, but I prefer him to do the 11+

If you could suggest the name of a school that his prep thinks he will be successful in at 13 we can recommend similar schools with large intakes at 11, ie Kingston Grammar or Radnor House. Will you consider schools in Surrey?
What year is your son currently in?

The Prep thinks Hampton may be possible also recommended Emmanuel. Surrey is possible as we are renting at the moment and can move for the right school.

Reeds in Cobham (Surrey) worth a look - not as academic as Hampton but above average. They have a tennis academy and a science/tech centre.

Thank you Clavinova, Reeds sounds very interesting as my son will love to be able to play tennis at school. I will definitely have a look.

You could also look at St John's and Epsom College, but both are increasingly popular. Agree Reeds would be a good option. There was another thread in the last week asking posters to rank SW London/Surrey schools on how difficult they are to get in - boys and co-ed. Would be worth looking at.

But if your DS is considerably weaker at English it could limit his choices from that list. From the quoted scores I would say the top tier would be stretch as they would looking for 80-85% on both.

What is his non-verbal/verbal reasoning like? Most schools have a paper for one of them.

Member of my extended family, who is good at tennis, is looking at St George's in Weybridge because of it quite sporty. Think she's hoping for a sports scholarship. She is not especially academic, so would disagree with st Goerge's ranking on the other thread on the basis her prep is presenting as the less academic choice than others such as CLFS. It is co-ed, though.
