SW London - JAGS/Alleyns question

Hello all - I'm new to this board and am likely to be spending a lot of time here!

We lives on Barnes/Putney border and am wondering whether JAGs/Alleyns are do-able journey-wise and if anyone has any experience of the journey? I know there are school buses from Clapham/Wandsworth, but conscious that it would be a long trip from us.

I haven't seen either school yet and am just wondering whether to bother (have open day fatigue already).

Thanks

I don't live too far from you and have a DC just started at secondary school. I would say it is a very long trip- people do do it but seems to be boys mainly as there are less options. There are lots of schools of a similar type to JAGS much nearer. I think the bus from Putney/Barnes leaves just after 7am?
The friends I know who have looked at it tend to be the other side of Clapham and look at it along with PHS, WHS, G&L etc.
Not just the day to day journey but the parents evening's get togethers, sports etc and friends living miles away.
I know what open day fatigue feels like so would say don't bother but then you may always wonder!

Thanks winterishereagain appreciate it.
That's exactly my thinking - that it would be mostly families the other side of Clapham and was also concerned about the distance for parents evenings, social stuff.
Will probably give it a miss, and focus on the options closer to home.
I've seen G&L, St Pauls, PHS, WHS and Ibstock place so far. Also looking at state options, so v busy!
Hope your DC happy at secondary school.

I'd also suggest that you look a bit closer. We're in Wimbledon and looked at JAGS (and got a scholarship place) but turned it down in favour of a closer option. The school we chose is a few places down the league tables from JAGS but we've been delighted with it so far (DD is Year 10).

Don't underestimate the impact a tricky commute will have on your daughter's life and yours. You gave some great schools on your doorstep.

We are in Fulham and DD goes to JAGS. She took the Foundation coach from Putney station until the end of Year 8, but now uses public transport as it means she can get up 14 mins later!

However, my parents live in Dulwich, so if she has a late match (eg. coach getting back to JAGS at 6.30) she can stay overnight with her grandparents.

She and her brother also do a lot of sport at a club in Wandsworth, so we may just be desensitised to a south London commute!

They are, indeed, too far away.
