Boys' Schools with girls in 6th form

Looking for opinions on boys' schools that take girls in the sixth form. We are currently looking at secondary schools for our son, who is in Year 5. We live in SW London and most of our options, both state and private, are boys' schools. We are also a boys only household (no daughters). My instinct is that it would be beneficial for our sons to go to a school that has girls in the sixth form, so that they experience working with female peers and see them achieving. I feel this may be a key factor in our final choice. I'd be interested to hear experiences. Do you feel it is beneficial over and above maintaining the boys only environment? I should add that my son is not macho or sporty.

Other side of the coin here. Daughter moved from all-girls to (private) boys school which takes girls in 6th Form (not in London unfortunately so not specifically helpful to you.
I do think 6th form is a great time to move to mixed-sex education though and, crucially, I think can be a good time for a move regardless.

Teenagers appreciate the opportunity to break free of social stereotypes and the entrenched friendships groups that have formed up to GCSE & educationally, it’s a great time for them & their work to encounter a new set of teachers with no preconceived ideas about them

I just wanted to encourage you not to get too bogged down choosing the next school based on 6th form. It’s a normal and natural time for a change anyway and a 16 year old can undertake independent travel to head further afield. If there is a boys only school that feels right for your son, go for it and you can always move for 6th form. So much changes anyway. The atmosphere, learning style and travel routines will be so much more important to him at 11. I’m not sure I’m explaining very well. Sixth form is obviously a relevant factor when you look at schools but, if a school is perfect in every other respect and just lacks girls in the 6th form, then it’s probably still worth considering. I didn’t know, until we reached that stage, how many children move schools then anyway.

I agree with PP, sixth form is too far ahead and schools can change, eg KCS Wimbledon have recently accepted girls into the sixth form, Tiffin Boys sixth form is co-ed from 2019.

Lots of mixed independent schools in SW London... might suit him better if neither macho or sporty and from an all boys household? Ibstock, Latymer, Emmanuel, The Harrodian, or further out Kingston Grammar, St George's, Claremont. Quite a bit of choice.
