Single sciences

Hi there

DD just started Y9, obviously will be deciding her GCSE options later this year. It looks as though her school allows you to take 9 subjects, some of which will be compulsory. At the school, they teach sciences singly (I was taught the same when I was at school, and sat Physics and Chem only - I dropped Biology). With other schools teaching double / triple sciences, would she be looked upon unfavourably if she only took 2 sciences? She's pretty bright, is on an academic scholarship, so she should be seen to be going down the most academic route, really.

She's not got a particular job in mind - she's not thinking medicine for example - and doesn't seem to have a particular affinity for any one subject - so far she's been doing pretty well across the board (except for Latin, which seems to be by far and away her best subject). Would she be disadvantaging herself by not taking all 3.

The reason I ask is currently she wants to do both History and Geography, which would take her over the 9 subjects (she is also going to enquire about whether she could actually take 10). This is assuming 2 English, Maths, a language, 3 individ sciences, Latin (total 8). If she could drop a science, she'd be able to fit both Hist and Geog in (assuming no timetabling issues).
