I've bought revision books. There is no way that ds would agree to doing any "extra" work other than revision. I would've thought that the text books are more useful for self study and they should cover the material in the books at school.

Speak to the school to see if there is anything they would recommend. That way you avoid wasting your money and anything you do buy would be relevant.

The CGP study and revision guides are excellent, clearly set out and thorough. Apart from that I would wait and see if your DD's school gives any recommendation on whether to buy textbooks or not. Some schools provide text books and some buy in bulk so that parents can buy them at a reduced price. Also the school may subscribe to Kerboodle which allows access to textbooks online.

Textbooks are quite heavy to carry in and back from school. You can easily buy them online secondhand so your DC have a copy at home. This also puts an end to the cry of "I forgot my textbook" when they should be doing homework in the evenings!

OP, get info from the school first. I recommend CPG revision books too, very useful.

CGP are also now doing exam question workbooks (for science, at least), which in combo with a revision guide/text book is the absolute best way to revise.

As others have said, ask the school. Our school recommends them. You need to make sure you get the one that covers your exam board. If history is one of your subjects, you need to know which modules your DC is covering.
