Waiting list movement in september

We were desperately hoping for a waiting list place for dd’s 1st choice school just before the start of term (going on previous years would definitely have got in from number 45 offer day)
But the call never came.. finally got hold of the admissions team today after radio silence all last week.. and she’s number 6.
Still my hope won’t completely die!!
How much movement is there at this point, would no-shows all have been reallocated by now? Do people still move after the first few days? Any previous experience v welcome. Getting no answers from the school (I have asked..) so trying for Mumsnet wisdom. If I have to give up now, it would be better to know 😬 TIA.

This is a "how long is a piece of string" question. It depends on your school's PAN, whether you are in an area of high mobility, whether you are in an area where lots of parents go private, whether parents might be waiting on "better" state offers ... not forgetting that waiting list positions can go up as well as down.

In DS's Reception class 1 child failed to start and another left after 2 weeks. Equally I know a child who got up to position 2 on the waiting list and was still waiting 3 years later (when her parents gave up).

Thanks - I know it is really, was just looking for any past experience. PAN is 450, but she is within a band of 150. Just hoping that there might be some no-shows who are still not contacted.. slim chance I know.

When my DD’s joined her school, children were still joining the school up till December.

The listed PAN was 360, but the actual cohort is approx. 405

Thank you maz- from reading previous threads (several hundred times since March) I think it might be the same school, I recognise your name!! K?

Also, although your No.6 now some parents will stay on the waiting list but not take up an offered space once uniform is bought and child has settled in.

So if a space comes up in a week or so you might drop down that list quite quickly.

DDs old school was 180 intake, grammar, 25th on list in March, offered in July, about 3 places appeared around first week with no shows then after that slow only 2 in rest of year, DD was last day in July. With a bigger intake I would say there's a reasonable chance but if you don't hear in first week or two maybe a wait.

Not sure how a comprehensive would compare or how much regional difference there is. Comp DD moved to, 2 moved in July but other than that don't know.

In same boat. DD currently third at our first choice school, 10th at second.

I keep hoping we'll get a call!

Yes Laidback, I am talking about Kingsdale. They do run their waiting list for a long time - if I remember correctly, I think a couple of children joined my DD’s tutor group in and around December.

The question is, will you be prepared for your DC to join that late.

I assume your DC is only on the banding waiting list?

Yes, no scholarship - we would give dd final say on moving now, at moment she’s still keen - currently at 5th choice school which is going ok so far. Once it gets past another week I reckon she’ll want to stay put if it does come up. Bit gutted to have moved 40odd places but not quite enough..

And good luck Winddoesnot...
Torture isn’t it..

Update - got a call this morning offering a place at our 4th choice school - which we will turn down. Sigh!
But gives me hope that there is still movement going on anyway. Perhaps the next person on the list will be at our first choice school & move Grin
