dc has almost 2 hours of that a day.
does it represent a subject/group of subjects?

Do you mean in school ?
As part of his timetable ?
(As opposed to what some parents pay for, in addition to their dcs' schooling?)

What year group is he ?

My DC have 30 minutes time each day with their tutor. At their school it is used to deliver messages, discuss any issues, have activities such as team building, raising self esteem etc, cover PSHE, and the slot is also used for year group /house assemblies. As DD is choosing GCSE options this year, she's also been told they will discuss this in tutor time.
2 hours a day seems excessive though - does the tutor also teach actual lessons in this time?

good question. dc doesn't talk much about school. it's easier to milk mice...
they have one period first thing and one last thing.

2 HOURS?
DD and DS have 15 minutes in the morning for registration/form time. Saying that it sometimes gets extended into P1 for assemblies / specific occasions.

BackforGood · 06/09/2018 17:39

It might be just for the first term or something, and will be used for teaching study skills and the like ??

I'd wait until he's had one and ask.
Quite a few schools have an early parents evening, or meeting in Yr7 - you can ask then.

It is also possible that they cover PSHE in one of the tutor sessions.

The am one at DS's school was for form time, registration and assembly (house assemblies, whole school assemblies etc). The PM was for PSHE and enrichment activities.

I very much doubt each session is two hours. More likely 20 to 30 mins in the morning and 10 morning an aI the end of the day. Check the school website as it probably has times of the days.

Normally tutor time includes giving out letters and messages, encouraging extracurricular activities, help organising homework, speaking to individual students about specific issues eg behaviour in maths, fall out with other students, encouraging attendance and just generally being a point of contact in School. Additionally each often has a theme eg assembly, private reading and news discussions.

thanks. very helpful!
yes, it's a full period (45min) mornings first thing and afternoon before home time.

you can tell I'm new to this :o

It's basically what was "Form time" in my day. I'm guessing it won't be 45 minutes every day, that's probably just because they are new to the school & the form teacher/tutor is supporting them through that transition
