DD needs a pair of sports shoes (trainers) for school sports. We don’t know what to choose. Please share your opinions! Mostly for track.

we really like any type of nike trainers. they are comfy and a well known brand, so won't be very noticeable amongst other kids (not that they probably would be anyway)

We usually stick with Nike and Adidas. Many of the other sport shoe brands have been bought by Sports Direct, and are therefore Sports Direct quality.

We ended up with some navy Adidas for sports and some classic green Stan Smiths for every day. But we had to go to two shops (and not Sports Direct) to find something of reasonable quality that wasn’t a total fashion item. Thanks!

We have found different brands work for different spots. DD has got on well with the both the Adidas and Nike range of spikes for athletics. Go to specialist sports shops though as they will advise you different types of spike shoes for different events. She has always had Grays Astros for hockey but the recent pair have had some serious faults so we've switched back to Adidas for them as well. She's had a variety of normal trainers for other activities but have found the New Balance trainers have been good for netball.

A lot of the 'fashion' trainers like some of Nike and Adidas really have no support for sports. Asics and New Balance might be a better all round bet. However if it's just for pe lessons and street cred is important just get whatever is fashionable. They don't do enough in pe lessons from what I see to warrant 'proper' trainers. My dd wears Asics for netball out of school and trendy things for pe.

I can recommend Nike Pegasus trainers - decent grips for netball etc, but quite flexible for running etc. Running trainers have terrible grips for netball. We have also have salomon speedcross which have been good for netball/hockey/cross country - they look like trail shoes but in the flesh are more like trainers. The salomons are better for hockey, the Pegasus are a bit less robust if you get a ball in the foot.

Also bear in mind your DDs foot shape as Nike and Adidas are very different

Adidas are like boats on my DDs thin feet and never fit, way too wide

Never have this problem with Nike

BikeRunSki · 05/09/2018 23:43

Ones that fit properly.
Nike are far too narrow for me.
Innov8 are just the wrong shape.
Different shaped feet-different shoes
