Going into Y10 Prep

Just that really.
What have you/your child done wrt preparing for Y10?
Or what should we/they be doing?

I've tried printing off the important bits of the specs for various subjects, but don't understand some of them myself, especially the marking.

Obviously, clothes and equipment are bought.
have bought some revision cards/ made some, but have no idea how many will be needed.

I also collated all the advice from off here and printed that off.

Personally I didn't do anything much, my DD didn't want me to, and I think it is good for them to take ownership of their learning. I did buy CGP Revision guides for the separate sciences, which are designed to follow the specs and also bought packs of revision cards and boxes to put them in. That's all.

That's good, I seem to be on the right track Grin
Mine didn't mind me doing it and I do tend to do a bit more because she boards and I like the attitude to learning/ organisation sorted before she goes.

Rather frighteningly I read the title of this thread and almost moved along thinking it wasn't relevant to me. Then I realised DS was about to start Y10 ........ How did that happen?

DS started GCSE work in Y9 so we've had a year to see what works and what doesn't. I'm not doing any prep as such but I will be encouragin DS to summarise and revise notes as he goes along, he came very unstuck with this last year.

Do either of you understand the specs if you have looked at them?
I'm managing most of it, but some stuff I can't fathom.
I have a PgCE but not to teach Secondary or GCSE.

I think the advice to start immediately with the notes and summaries is sound advice, I hope mine listens.
