Sports bag - needed or not?

Secondary school is looming and sports kit is 4 separate pieces and trainers. My DS is planning on ramming it in his backpack along with trainers and books - is this do-able or do most pupils have a separate sports bag?

So what happens when it’s raining & his kit gets wet & muddy?

In my experience they all have a separate bag - my DD has a drawstring bag.

Just a simple draw string bag will do. With a plastic lining/carrier bag inside to stop any wet stuff leaking

Good point about the muddy kit. Drawstring bag sounds ideal - thanks everyone

All three of my sons put sports kit in a drawstring bag and somehow fit this into their backpack along with their books or leave it festering in their locker

My daughter carries her sports kit in a small holdall with a shoulder strap.

Sports bag with separate plastic bag inside for football boots/shinpads/trainers. He might not have lost it so many times in Year 7 if it had all fitted in his backpack but he has so many books to cart about that I didn't think it was possible.
