Any BTEC experts that can explain results?

I've never had any experience of BTEC courses so whilst I understand how the GCSE grading works I can't decipher whether my relative's BTEC result is a pass or fail. They studied it in year 11 at school if that helps.

I though it was Pass, Merit and Distinction?

I think the C M and O's mean core/compulsory, mandatory and optional but still have no idea if he's passed. I think I might have to email school but I doubt I'll hear back from them until the start of term.

Doesn't look like it. Assuming the blanks are where he didn't submit work, he only has passes for four out of sixteen modules, and didn't take the second compulsory module.

For the award you only have to submit 4 units (the other units are for the bigger qualifications) so it looks like your relative has submitted enough work but in the first unit they only have a level 1 pass not level 2. This will mean they only have a level 1 pass overall (D-G equivalent).

Thanks for clearing that up, I had a feeling when I worked out that the C was compulsory and there was a blank in that column that he hadn't passed Sad.

I don’t teach the engineering BTEC but a different one. I’ve googled, unit 1 is an externally assessed unit usually on onscreen test. Did he get the opportunity to resit the exam?

s4rah19 · 25/08/2018 21:58

No, no resit. I do recall him saying the exam was supposed to be one week then it was postponed and when it was finally scheduled he wasn't given much notice. He did tell me his score was low but the teacher had told him he would be fine and his coursework would see him through. Obviously that didn't happen!

That’s annoying. If he’d got a merit on one of the units it would have brought the mark up to a level 2 pass (even with a level 1 in the exam).

I've had no experience of BTEC's, having only done GCSE and A-Levels. From what I can gather his original teacher left, some kids were disruptive in lessons and he never felt like the current teacher had a grip on things.
