.....with this paragraph:
"During the next few weeks, we will be outlining the proposals for the re-organisation of secondary provision within the borough. The aim of this reorganisation is to transform and inspire learning within (area) and to fulfil the authority's duty to reduce surplus places, promote choice, diversity, high standards and the fulfilment of every childs educational potential."
What would you think?

Actually the catchment areas in our borough are very mixed up, which leads to a lot of children doing a lot of travelling - this was one of the reasons given for the 'consultation exercise' I referred to earlier.

Yes, the morally "best" solution in a big city is to put all the children from a given year into a big pot (or computer simulation thereof) and allocate schools on a random basis. But as Rusty mentions, this would produce traffic nightmares, not to mention kids no longer being with their primary-school peer groups or having a sense of community/belonging to the local school.

i thought lottery system too
whatever they do, sounds like it isn't going to be popular

(wonder if we can somehow afford private for our 3 kids by the time they are that old.........sigh)

Fwiw I agree with sending your children to your local school. We have moved 'home' if you like, a few streets away from where I grew up. Our local secondary school is the one where I want dds to go. Our move wasn't just prompted by school choice, it was as I said coming home. All our friends and family are here. Lots of our family went to this school because it WAS the local one. We are by no means in an affluent town, very much the opposite in a large portion of it. But like any other parent I do not want my children encountering UnquietDads very accurate description of school life masquerading as their secondary education.
