How long after Ofsted have been are results published?

We are currently going through an appeal with a school that had an Ofsted inspection in May. As yet, the results have not been published. There is a rumour that the inspection has not gone well. Government website suggests that it should be published 19 working days after inspection, or in the case of the school being inadequate, 28 working days. I would like to know how its gone in case the appeal is successful. Does anybody have an idea how long it takes for the info to be on Ofsted website?

Well, about that. It can depend how quick the inspector is (ours produced draft for school very quickly, but it also has to be moderated) and changes made.

The rumour mill starts going if it is anything more than a week or so - the longer the gap, the wilder the rumours, irrespective of the truth.

Do you know what the current grade is, and how long the inspection was? Broadly if it was good, and a one day inspection, they are still good. If it was a two day inspection, then they could be going up or down - or staying the same.

Ladyflip · 02/07/2018 13:33

The last inspection was only 2014 and was outstanding, but the inspection was two days. But there has been an incident at the school which may have lead to Ofsted deciding to inspect when they might reasonably have left it longer.

I think you can be fairly sure of the ofsted publication timetable - i.e. if the report is not out by 19 working days it is most likely because the school is inadequate.

How many working days have elapsed?

Hersetta427 · 02/07/2018 14:20

ours took 6-7 weeks to be published and overall rating was inadequate.

No news is bad news when it comes to ofsted.

admission · 02/07/2018 15:48

Agree with others that the longer the time span the more likely that there has been a disagreement about the school capabilities and it is more likely to be negative than positive.
I am guessing that you are wondering whether the Ofsted inspection makes a difference to an appeal. The answer should be no it makes no different as the panel assumes that every child will get a good education which ever school they are at. However obviously if you are applying for a place at the school then not being outstanding may alter your perspective of the school.

BubblesBuddy · 02/07/2018 16:21

If it was Outstanding only 4 years ago, something has triggered the inspection. That’s a quick return for Outstanding. It’s even quick for Good. Have you looked at their progress and attainment data recently? Or there might have been a serious complaint or safeguarding issue. I would try and work out why they are back so quickly. The wait is almost certainly due to the school contesting the outcome.

Joinourclub · 02/07/2018 16:35

hmm interesting. I think I know which school you are talking about and it’s progress 8 scores weren’t great, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it lost its outstanding status. I think many parents wouldn’t care though , as they like the independent ethos of the school and would consider the ‘incident’ to be a one off.

TheFrendo · 02/07/2018 16:42

The OP stated that there had been an incident at the school. If safeguarding ofsted will be down on them like a ton of bricks.

Ladyflip · 02/07/2018 17:03

I think @joinourclub knows where I am talking about. The incident is of a nature which makes me feel very unsure about the school. I think safeguarding, governors and welfare will all be an issue.

The Ofsted was 22/23rd May. Do they count half term as working days? If not it is over 19 days but not over 28 yet.

In any event, they don't tell us the result of the appeal until July 17th and presumably by then we will know the results of the inspection and can make more of an informed choice.

Way over 19 working days, so highly unlikely it will be good. Ofsted will probably be deciding between inadequate & special measures.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 02/07/2018 19:30

Unless the school are challenging the grading perhaps. Wouldn’t that mean a delay?

ButterChickenwithyellowrice · 02/07/2018 22:29

They take very different amounts of time depending on the QA.

Ofsted will probably be deciding between inadequate & special measures. They tell you that on the day. A change is very rare.

Unless the school are challenging the grading perhaps. Wouldn’t that mean a delay? No, not really.

The school gets the draft report. They then get the final report and can share it with parents. Sometimes it is up to a week before it shows through a web search. Have you checked the school website?

admission · 02/07/2018 22:37

The majority of the time it takes to get an Ofsted report written and then published is the time taken for moderation of the report internally at Ofsted. The school only have 24 hours to raise any discrepancies which are technical / incorrect in nature. The school will already know the expected outcome and may have objected but this will, in my opinion, only result in more levels of moderation at Ofsted and a very unlikely expectation of any change to the outcome.

Ladyflip · 02/07/2018 22:44

Just checked the school website. Looks like they are ready to publish tomorrow as it is all set up with "links to appear here 3rd July " including video from head.
Thank you all for your comments and assistance.

BubblesBuddy · 02/07/2018 22:54

Yes Admission, but further moderation, if the school isn’t happy and has objected, leads to a delay in publishing the report.

Joinourclub · 03/07/2018 07:52

Wow, well that’s a bit of a shocker isn’t it Ladyflip!

Ladyflip · 03/07/2018 09:01

Indeed Joinourclub. The school response doesn't actually reassure me either. The attitude seems to be that Ofsted got it wrong, and all the parents think it's great so what is there to worry about?

For those who don't know the school, it's been rated Inadequate.

OP posts:
Joinourclub · 03/07/2018 09:27

Parents think it great because it’s reassuringly middle class. Traditional values, smart uniform, sporting prowess, shiny website. But the truth is it doesn’t actually offer a better education than other local schools. Pupils that do well there, will do well anywhere.

LovelyBath77 · 03/07/2018 10:17

Are you talking about Beechen Cliff in Bath? As I did a post on that in secondary education

It's here if you want to see the report..

LovelyBath77 · 03/07/2018 16:53

Ladyflip might be worth checking the response on twitter from the parents, twitter.com/BeechenCliff

My son goes there and loves it.

GarethSouthgatesRevenge · 04/07/2018 13:55

What @Joinourclub says, with bells on.

Where has your son been allocated @Ladyflip ?
