Should I give my Sixth formers a glass of Bucks Fizz?

Tomorrow is the last time I teach my year 13 group. I usually provide breakfast for them on the last day and wondered about giving them some Bucks Fizz. It is 4% volume. Do you think there would be a problem with this? Worst case scenario - would I lose my Job?

not without speaking to parents first tbh

LynetteScavo · 24/05/2007 21:16

Are they all over 18?

highonlife · 24/05/2007 21:16

Thought as much - it would only be a glass but ther will be some who feign to be drunk or take it to the extreme

Agree with Piffle. Can you buy some non-alcoholic fizzy wine and mix it with oj instead?

colditz · 24/05/2007 21:17

some people might decide to throw a dicky fit about it - I wouldn't risk it TBH!

highonlife · 24/05/2007 21:17

Yes L - all over 18, they were the ones who suggested champagne bless 'em. Must think I'm made of money!!

at my GCSE art showing - was 15b, we were all allowed a glass of wine.
Same at the leaving party.

moondog · 24/05/2007 21:18

I wouldn't.Not in school time.
(You sound lovely and thoguhtfull though.)

Hulababy · 24/05/2007 21:18

Yes, 'fraid you are best sticking to non-alcoholic, even though it is just 4%.

highonlife · 24/05/2007 21:18

Thanks for all your advice - just needed someone to reaffirm my gut feeling

Also there may well be school policy about pupils and alcohol on school premises. Sorry to sound like such a killjoy!

Rusty · 24/05/2007 21:19

I was actually bought my first alcoholic drink by my history teacher in a pub after a theatre trip...... I did tell him I wasn't 18, but he just said 'I won't tell if you won't'

Hulababy · 24/05/2007 21:19

It is a really lovely thought thoughand I am sure the students would ahve lovded it. Sure they will love the sentiments behind the breakfast, etc. even more though.

highonlife · 24/05/2007 21:20

The old days were great - I remember drinking with my teachers, although I wouldn't want to go out with my lot these days... they'd put me to shame!

Yes, I think you could lose your job.

Are they all 18 years old. If you have a kid with an August birthday are they going to feel left out? What about kids aren't supposed to drink for religious reasons.

If some of they start acting stupid on the last day of term, are you going to be accused of making them drunk? Even if they have only had a sip.

Sorry, if they had been older it would have been a lovely idea.

chenin · 24/05/2007 21:50

Well... I agree you can't really give them alcohol in school cos there is bound to be one arsey parent.
having said all that, it is my 18yo DDs last day today and she has been at the pub since 1pm... I have just picked her up from the pub to come home and change, and am then driving her back up there...! There were probably 100 of them sat in the beer garden all in fancy dress and it looked such fun.... ahhhh! those were the days!
