Schools with no exam at 11

Hello, MN please enlighten me as to what private schools go all the way through to 18, WITHOUT having to sit the 11+/exam to get into the high school. Schools that won't suddenly 'ask you to leave' in year 5, if you're not looking like a good prospect for their future GCSE marks.
I want a school like this for my DD. All girls or mixed I don't mind.
Areas would be SW London and a shortish commute: Putney, Wimbledon, Sutton, Kingston, Epsom, Cobham, maybe even the other way towards Fulham etc
I've been told Ewell Castle school is like this.
I just want a school where once she's in, she's in until she goes to Uni.

Have you looked at St Theresa's in Effingham?

Canadawet · 22/06/2018 12:39

In Ealing both St Benedict's (co-ed) and St Augustine's (girls) are like that at the moment.

Many of the GDST schools give an automatic pass through but there is a test for entrance at reception if Y3 so tests aren’t avoided altogether. We put DD into a school we thought would be nice to go all the way through but she changed as did the schools (one changed from single sex to co-ed for example) so now in Y8 she is on her third school but they’ve been the right changes at the right time and the right schools for her, two indies and one state (reception to Y3, Y3 to Y6 and now Y7 onwards).

Possibly Fulham Prep. Has a new non selective senior school

St Catherine’s in Twickenham.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. They are all schools I don't know so will be checking them out.

Downsend in Leatherhead.

Many places might still get them to sit the test, but in reality it’s a formality. Any private school can get you to leave at any point if they feel the School is not a good fit, so even getting in is no guarantee of staying.

This is really rare with girls schools with reception entry. You find it more with 7+ schools as it's easier by that stage to assess academically.
It is relatively unusual to be asked to leave a GDST. However all girls have to sit the test as it helps benchmark them with external candidates.

I know of at least two GDST schools in South / South East London that do not require a test to pass from the junior school to the secondary, they only ask the girls to sit the test if they want to apply for a scholarship so many don't sit the test. Whether all the GDST schools follow the same pattern I can't say so best to check their admissions information. However saying that I also experienced girls who were encouraged between Y2 and Y4 to consider alternative schools if it turned out they were not hugely academic.
