Hi - we live 2.2miles from BW girls. Wondering if we have any chance of getting in. Does anyone know the cut off for the school ?

We don’t officially know the distances for the Sept 2018 intake but I hear it’s been a tough year compared to previous years for many schools in the area. Past distances are in the Bromley booklet here: www.bromley.gov.uk/download/downloads/id/3171/applying_for_a_school_place_2018.pdf and note the furthest it has come out in the last three years is 1.6 miles and that was mostly down to not a massive number of siblings for that year. Also check if your DD might qualify on another criteria other than distance.

With the sibling link with Bullers boys (opening on a temp site) that is also going to change things for the future and mean even more places are likely to go to siblings than before and most likely make the catchment even smaller.

Saying that they could put on a bulge class or expand and hey presto you’d be in distance.

Sorry to be the bearer of what I suspect are mostly disappointing tidings. Do you have some good other options? If looking at a place for Sept 2019 have you registered for the grammar tests etc?

Janleverton · 22/06/2018 14:04

It’s unlikely I think that they will expand above 8FE - site is restricted in terms of the siting of buildings and if there is any expansion at the girls school I expect it will be more likely to the 6th form accommodation at future proof when it will serve the girls and boys schools in 5/6 years time. I also expect the “catchment” to shrink in about 3 or 4 Years time with siblings of boys at BWSB getting priority, particularly since the first year intake to the BWSB year 7 this September has gone out quite far as is a new unknown entity. I am sure it will be good in time, but I know lots of folk very nearby who have gone with the established schools they got offers from rather than chancing being the first year group and the uncertainty about the permanent boys school site. They’ve gone with ravensbourne/ravens wood. Both of which are fab (have 1 dc at ravensbourne and one at BWSG) but ravenswood irrelevant as boys only.

reluctantbrit · 23/06/2018 15:45

I have friends in the area and none of them went in, for the 2017 intake they would have, so I assume distance for the first round shrunk again.

2012 was a huge bulge class year and several Bromley schools took on bulge classes and expanded permanently so I would think the 2019 intake is maybe even worse.

what school is better chislehurst school for girls or bullers wood for girls

DuckyMcDuck · 07/03/2021 09:15

If you mean better academically, then a look at their gcse/A'Level results will help but Bullers does have a reputation for being academic.

Locally, Bullers Girls Seems to be mor popular than Chislehurst girls (which until recently was called Beaverwood) which didn't have the greatest reputation but that was a few years ago so again, a Google may help.

If this is for next year, hopefully you will get a chance to visit and so get a feel as to which will suit your daughter best.

If it's for this year, I know a number of friends who didn't get Bullers as their catchment has shrunk, and are now trying to choose between going on the waiting lists for Chislehurst Girls or Ravensbourne.

PettsWoodParadise · 07/03/2021 21:40

Monkeys you were asking very similar questions a couple of years ago, where did that DD end up? At the time people gave you some great advice about schools and the same will still apply.

Monkeys121 · 07/03/2021 22:38

pettswood paradise why are you so concerned what i ask about schools went grammer instead

Just trying to help, I’ve seen people worry and ask the same question over and over and it can help stop the hyperbole by taking a step back and thinking about when you asked this before. I have lots of friends in the Borough with children in different schools and my DD does tutoring for children who attend a variety of schools so between us we have a good insight.
Whatafool123 · 09/03/2021 13:03

DD has just got in to BWSG, and I understand their catchment dropped to around 1.26 miles this year where it was higher the last few. I suspect the steady growth of the boys'school year on year will have affected this.

Whether Bullers is better will depend on your DD's and your criteria, I suspect. I think BW is regarded as more academic (as people have already said) but I think all the Bromley schools are good enough that a child who wants to do well will be able to do so.

My feeling was that Chislehurst School had a much more open feel to the campus which is nice - BW is tucked away and felt slightly claustrophobic to me (although we were there with hundreds of others at an open evening in 2019, so that may have affected the feeling I got) .

I don't know anyone with DD at Chislehurst yet, but everyone we know with daughters at BW is pleased with it.

Cebrimum · 16/09/2021 12:55

@Whatafool123 May I know how far are you from the BWSG? I am about 1.3 mile. I am so worried when I know that the catchment is dropped to 1.26 mile this year. My DD is in Y6 now and I am going to put BWSG as my first choice.

Whatafool123 · 22/09/2021 01:08

@Cebrimum sorry, just seen your message. We are about 0.9 miles from BWSG, I think. Don't worry too much, I think 1.3 miles would be fine most years. Also DD's year was a very high birth rate. Fingers crossed you will be OK.

Zaina201 · 12/10/2021 20:36

Hi we live 1.67miles away from the school. What is the probability of getting my DD in BWGS

Zaina201 · 12/10/2021 20:37

Is it worth nominating the school as the first choice

Cebrimum · 12/10/2021 23:11

@Whatafool123 thank you for your reply. Fingers crossed!

Whatafool123 · 13/10/2021 10:30

@Cebrimum, you are welcome. Fingers crossed you will be fine.

@Zaina201, 1.67 miles is quite far, but if you really want the school, it has to be worth putting down as first choice because if you don't get it in the first round, you can join the waiting list and may be lucky. As far as I am aware, if you don't put it first and get the school you do put first, then you can't join the list (but I am not an expert - someone else may be able to confirm either way).

Zaina201 · 13/10/2021 14:05

Any one know how good is Eltham Hill and the catchment area. This school is 1.19miles away from us

yegak · 13/10/2021 21:27

Eltham Hill is a good school, I recently toured it and was suitably impressed. Greenwich Council states offers went out to 4425m last year so 1.19miles should be fine.

Zaina201 · 14/10/2021 11:51

I need help in making a selection
Wha my is the best way to put them on my preference list. I’m thing to have Bullerswood on top of my preference list so DD is placed on waiting list. but does this mean I may lose an offer from Eltham Hill. We come under Greenwich council

Bullers wood Girls 1.67m away
Eltham high school 1.1
Chistlehurst school for girls 2.2miles

If you prefer Bullers Wood then put it first. You don't risk losing a place at other schools as long as you include them somewhere on your list. It's an equal preference system, so you don't get priority for putting a school first.
Monkeys121 · 14/10/2021 14:13

where abouts do you live if you come under greenwich borough you probably won't get bullers wood i know someone who's on the waiting list and been waiting ages spaces don't ever come available there but you would defo get a place at chislehurst school for girls or more likely eltham hill

Zaina201 · 14/10/2021 17:04

Which one is better Chistlehurst grammer school or Eltham Hill?

Monkeys121 · 14/10/2021 22:10

There about the same have you visited them which one did you prefer when you went to look do you live in eltham eltham hill is nearer to you but depends if you don't mind travelling but all the three schools are about the same is it only girls schools your after st thomas more is very good but catholic and mixed

scrunchSE18 · 14/10/2021 23:10

By Chislehurst Grammar do you mean Chis and Sid Grammar or Chislehurst school for girls? Two very different schools
