40 minute bus each way?

Do you think a 40 minute bus journey to school is too far from age 11-16? It would be nearly an hour door to door. Just wondering how children manage with homework and after school clubs. I suppose my child would still get home at around 4.30pm so maybe it's not too bad. Grateful for your views as I'm not sure we can afford to move closer.

I suppose it is ok if there really is no alternative. However if there is a good school closer to you then don’t choose the one further away just because it is considered slightly better. Those hours spent in a coach could be used in a far better way.

One if our dc did this - very noticeable that if they are happy at school and with friends then the bus is just an extension of a happy school day. But if there are problems or they’re not happy or have friendship issues (or worse bullying issues) then the bus exacerbates that - just something to look out for. I think it depends on the child how much of an issue it might be

Ds1's journey is 45min-1hr door to door. Also home for 4.30pm. We thought it worth it for the right school.
