DD15 Yr 10 asking for summer tuition WWYD

Is this normal? DD15 Yr10 attends local state school, no private tuition but has just asked if I can look into some summer tuition for her. Quick google tells me it's extortionate. She knows we're not awash with cash and would not expect us to overstretch ourselves. We already pay £2000+ a year for music tuition, and we've paid £350 for a summer music camp she loves so we don't have much left, probably a couple of hundred tops.

I think she's putting herself under pressure but she does have ADHD and can zone out so could need some support as there's a few subjects she feels she hasn't got to grips with this year, particularly if she has struggled with the teaching style.

Is Yr10 summer revision a thing? Should she just give herself the summer off, or if really keen, plow through some of the revision guides I've bought for her mocks? Or is a tutor a good idea?

There are loads of online resources including videos she should look at before shelling out for an actual tutor.

I know lots of students who have had tutors in Y11, but it has been a weekly thing, and generally only in 1 or 2 subjects.

Agree with noble that she could use the summer to study independently and consolidate the topics she isn't confident about. You have already bought some revision guides; she can use those. If she is stuck on particular topics, there are explanation videos on YouTube.

DS2 did an hour a day in the summer holidays between Y10 and Y11, but he is unusually conscientious.

When Ds was doing GCSE revision this year he watched YouTube videos made by teachers on history and English explaining how to answer particular types of questions which were very helpful. He liked Mr Allsop and Mr Salle

i agree - ds spend some time over the summer after yr10 doing online prep and it helped enormously.
tutors vary so much, many are really not worth it. unless she has a specific need or understanding issue, i wouldn't shell out for a tutor, it'll take the tutor quite a few sessions to gauge her ability/gaps unless she is very specific.

Thanks all for posting, I'll suggest the YouTube teachers and encourage her to work through the guides. An hour a day sounds manageable, and she'll get plenty of time to do nothing/ see friends so feel like she's had a proper break.
