Independent schools that do A -Levels in Kent

We are relocating to UK next year and previously lived in Tonbridge, Kent. Our kids will be going into years 12 (B) 9 (B) and 7 (G).

Middle one is sorted with schools (as you need to apply two years ahead in some schools for year 9).

Older one wants to do A-Levels and is adamant he doesn't want to consider IB (current school abroad offers IB). We will of course apply to Tonbridge school. However would like to have a second option. Son is academic, musical and sporty. Does anyone have any suggestions? Plan to either move back to Tonbridge or Sevenoaks (husband will commute to London) but happy to consider elsewhere but will need access to either of these towns as middle and younger one will school in the area.

Thank you in advance!

Could eldest board - Brighton College, Kings Canterbury, Whitgift in Croydon? Have you considered the state grammar schools as there may well be places at y12.

Thank you. At the moment neither of those options are for us at the moment

It might be an idea to post this in the local Kent page as well OP.

Thank you Massi- will try and work out how to do it

Best state option nearby would be either Judd, Skinners or St Olaves. All great results at A Level. Think St O's does just as well if not better than Tonbridge school. However if you are set on an independent then I don't think there is a lot of choice close by at that academic level.

hubby · 13/06/2018 18:26

Thank you for the suggestions. But yes will only consider independents for various reasons

Farringtons School in Chislehurst, not too far from Sevenoaks area.

MrsPatmore · 14/06/2018 10:09

Is it an option to move somewhere like Keston, near Orpington? There are Foundation coaches that go to Dulwich College from that area but it's a schlep! I think Eltham College has a coach there too. Tonbridge school wouldn't be too far in the other direction either.

Not many boys senior school options other than Sevenoaks/Tonbridge in that neck of the woods?

Lingfield College? Sutton Valence?

hubby · 14/06/2018 12:21

Thank you. Will look up the ones mentioned. Middle boy already has a place in Sevenoaks so need to take that into consideration too

Dulwich only takes boarders at 6th form

Other than Tonbridge you don't have a lot of choice if Sevenoaks is not an option. The only other places doing A levels and taking take boys are the smaller much lower tier independents which are very different to the places you are considering. Radnor House Sevenoaks, Sackville, Notre Dame Lingfield, Beechwood and Bethany are the places that spring to mind.
If your ds doesn't get Tonbridge then I would consider a train journey to Canterbury or Croyden if you want higher tier.

Caterham has a coach from Sevenoaks

LIZS · 14/06/2018 17:52

Trinity might as well.

Floralnomad · 14/06/2018 17:57

AFAIK Kings Rochester do a school bus pick up in Sevenoaks and they do A levels .

hubby · 15/06/2018 03:07

Thank you all

Worth? Is there a coach from Tunbridge Wellls?

TJsAunt · 19/06/2018 10:46

just a quick correction though - Dulwich take boarders from year 7

MrsPatmore · 19/06/2018 11:50

Dulwich has day boys at 6th form too.

hubby · 21/06/2018 12:56

I have been in touch with the admissions Tutor at Dulwich and she said to ask around Nov in case some day boys leave but as of now not possible to apply for 6th form as day boy
