Does anyone know much about this school? Do they have many girls? Good academically?

St John's was a boys' school originally so boys were always majority when became co-ed. The move to 11 plus entry 2 years ago was designed to increase the number of girls as girls traditionally transition at 11. Although I don't have figures, I think this has meant the school is now more balanced as they have a larger pool of candidates from both sexes.
It was always seen as more sporty than academic but in recent years has been working hard to improve results. Results are still below KGS, CLFS, Hampton, Reeds, Surbiton High, LEH. However, there is massive demand for places and DC not getting places when expected to as a result. As this cohort works its way through results should increase. But part of the increase in demand is a result of expanding catchment with buses from parts of Richmond. There is a new head this year who is very highly thought of as turned round previous school with falling roll.
Moving away from traditional boarding school format towards more day school as only have weekly boarders.

I know DC who attend and my DC was offered a place and the school came across v well. DC chose another school for academic record although v sporty, but would have been happy for DC to take up the place if wanted to.

Are you looking at other schools?

Yes, Claremont, KGS, Epsom, St. George's. Dd is middle-high ability but not LEH type material (we want co-ed anyway).
