Private prep to state secondary??

Dds are in co Ed independent prep. They could stay until 18. ISI report was excellent in all areas but at gcse and a level I wouldn't say it had the highest results. They're both doing very well and love school.

A 3 minute walk from home is an outstanding in all areas secondary girls school.

We're torn between keeping them where they are, where they're happy, lots of friends etc or save tens of thousands over 7 years of education. Writing that down brings it home but interested to hear if anyone else moved their child from private primary to state secondary

My DDs girls only school had almost no pastoral care. I believe it is better now, with the a new head and new ideas. But it wasn't until my DD left that we heard just how bad it had been for some of her friends. In comparison her siblings' school was co-ed and did not seem to have the same problems. Having boys in the mix really did take some of the tension out of the relationships between the girls. There was a lot more humour and give and take in the co-ed and less social media trouble than at the girls' school.

OP. Now you've said 75 in the senior years - that is a much better size of year group, although still small compared with most state schools where year groups can be 200.

Mine are both at state grammars. I went to private and state.

It depends on many things about the state school, not just an Ofsted.

I’d be taking my children for a visit there to get a feel for it. What suits one child might not another. My DDs school for example is much smaller than my DSs, and this suits both of their personalities. My DSs school is very competitive and the pace of work is eye watering. This suits DS. OTOH, DDs School is more nurturing and they place great importance on values and effort, which suits DD better.

Both knew when they visited that they were the right schools - “the kids there are like me”. I place great importance on how they see themselves fitting in to the School ethos and environment.

didn't read the whole tread. Difficult decision, we moved DD1 from small mid-tier (in terms of academic results, almost no Russell group university destinations) private all girls to huge state co-ed, outstanding in all areas, with good Oxbridge, Med and Vet schools uni destinations, and are planning to move DD2 there as well. Both schools are 2 miles away from home, one bus journey. I personally believe that an average private school is not worth the money if you have an outstanding state option.
