Dd1 is in Year 3 so got a little while to go but already thinking of secondaries. She's in an independent prep which does go through to 18 but not sure it's academic enough for gcse / alevel.

She's in her school's G&T group and I'm a primary teacher myself so could tutor her but how competitive is KGS?

Other option is St George's but commute would be long.

It's competitive as in 750+ applicants for this year 112 places accepted but if your dd is bright you will find your get offers from equally competitive schools - LEH, Putney High and to a lesser degree Surbiton High (although they raised their entrance requirements this year). 3 years from now it's going to be harder than currently (its to do with fewer families living in central London and moving out to Surrey etc and the high cost of boarding school, all the private secondary schools in the area are finding the quality of applicant increasing each year). The good news with KGS is that you can have a practice run with the 10+ to give you an idea of what to expect.

Thanks. No interest at at all in Surbiton high although it's close to us. It's far too urbanised, no outside space.

We want a co-ed. Well look at KGS, St George's and Freemen's.

Hi OP- I really like KGS - DD got an offer this year but is going elsewhere, but have you looked round? The outside space is very similar to Surbiton- ie not much at all and its location makes it feel far more urban than SHS I think.
You want co- ed anyway but if it's outside space you want, KGS isn't for you as the playing fields are offsite, as they are at Surbiton.
In terms of getting in, quite a few got in from DDs state primary this year- mainly girls. All bright but not top of the class bright.

If you want co-ed and outside space I would definitely look at CLFS. My DC loves it and another DC is starting in September. It is hard to get in - not sure it can match KGS applicant no.s per space, though! But there are only 20 places at 11 and another 20 at 13. The main intake is at 7 with 60 places.

From my DC's primary, 7 sat the exam. 2 offered,. 1 going,
