Is there anything online DD can access to help with Chemistry GCSE?

There was a post on here recently from a mother who mentioned she could not afford tutoring for her DC to help them with their maths. Lots of knowledgeable replies followed where MNs recommended online resources the DC could access for free to help.

Is there anything similar for Chemistry? DD sometimes struggles with new topics. Her whole class struggles; I believe they have the teacher who has high academic qualifications but is the weakest in the school for explaining difficult topics to their GCSE class. If there were a resource she could access online, that could help.

Try Khan academy

CGP revision guides with added questions and answers are good and the CGP question books (with answers). DS works through them topic by topic and looks up the answers to see where he went wrong. Fids it easier than revising (learning stuff)

See if there are any videos. For English literature, for example, there are some quite useful short videos by a guy called Martyn who explains some poems. She could search by topic.

Tassomai, although it's £20 per month but still cheaper than a tutor.

UnnecessaryFennel · 01/05/2018 17:05

Sorry ignore me, just realised you specified free!

irregularegular · 01/05/2018 17:11

We find the revision guides - and especially the workbooks- more effective than online resources. Not free but not expensive either.

AlexanderHamilton · 01/05/2018 17:16

Tassomai is brilliant but you have to pay for it.

I also found this website.

chemrevise.org/gcse-aqa-guides/

Search for Crash Course Chemistry on YouTube. There are videos on different topics. The videos tend to give a good overview of a topic although some content is A level standard. I'd say they are still worth watching unless they are likely to make her anxious.

Freesciencelessons on Youtube. Covers all 3 sciences not just Chemistry.

Ifonlyus · 01/05/2018 20:24

Oh wow - so many answers. Thank you. And I will bear in mind Tassomai if we think she needs something like that.

DC uses GCSE pod, seems to be pretty good.

Tassomai is great. But if she's year 11, I wouldn't bother now.

Get her doing as many exam.papers as possible. Is she doing aqa? www.aqa.org.uk/exams-administration/exams-guidance/find-past-papers-and-mark-schemes

Even if she's not, it's still a good thing to do.

I also agree YouTube, freesciencelessons are brilliant! Many a plenary taken care of. My students really rate him.

Cgp do a revision guide and a workbook too.

Berthatydfil · 01/05/2018 22:02

Bangor guides - but you might need to check the spec as they are designed for wjec

sofakingg00d · 01/05/2018 22:06

Seneca learning - like tassomai but free

Ifonlyus · 02/05/2018 09:05

She's Year 10- so I imagine still having new topics introduced to her. She enjoys the subject. She wants to do well in it.
