My parents bought me a CD player to take to university after my A levels. I had an unconditional offer, but they didn't try to bribe me to do well. Same applies here. I think the cash already spent on prom related activity and a holiday in Early July are more than enough.

LooseAtTheSeams · 07/05/2018 12:57

Brainmelt I think your DS is well prepared but the two shelves sound quite daunting, especially to onlookers! I’m not convinced DS used any of the revision materials I bought him. He seems to do a lot on his laptop or on the bits of paper scattered round his room!

Oddsocks15 · 07/05/2018 15:48

I can’t reward DD for revision as I honestly have no clue how much/little she is doing. Could reward for results but as I have no idea whether she will pass based on minimum or maximum effort don’t feel that is fair either. Plus I have twins that will sit their GCSEs when and if DD sits her A levels, so thinking of expense ahead Shock Shock !!

KingscoteStaff · 07/05/2018 15:48

No cash for grades here - we are rewarding effort ( which has been good) with Reading Tickets.

KingscoteStaff · 07/05/2018 16:24

The Emotional Assistance Rabbit cools off in the garden after a stressful Physics session.

No cash for grades here but we're operating a curry for revision system which is working very well! (Not doing my waistline much good though Blush)

Oratory1 · 07/05/2018 17:27

I think I ll need a gift (wine/gin/holiday/sleep/massage) if we make it through to mid June !! We ve put the hours in too !!

RosieLig · 07/05/2018 17:43

Brilliant! We have an Emotional Assistance dog here (for me as well as my son!) Grin

I’m rewarding myself with Wine

BlueBelle123 · 07/05/2018 18:28

Just back from a very relaxing weekend away......thoroughly recommended ......completely forgot all about GCSE's Grin

LooseAtTheSeams · 07/05/2018 18:32

Love the bunny! Our cat is very comforting.
DS had a bit of a wobble about remembering all the science but have told him he can only do his best and if necessary guess!
He's managed some physics and computer science today.

Cherryburn · 07/05/2018 18:43

I too am rewarding myself with Wine. In fact, I am doing so as I speak having survived a long session on the dreaded RS, a shopping trip with DD (never straightforward...) and marking a Biology paper. Cheers!

stickerrocks · 07/05/2018 19:33

I want an emotional assistance guinea pig but I'm not allowed one. I shall resort to try to train our 2 goldfish for support.

sandybayley · 07/05/2018 20:00

Emotional assistance dog has gone to the park to play football with DS1.

Glad to see the consensus is that 'pay per grade' isn't the way to go. DS1 is quite happy with his mountain trip and is less looking forward to a tech trip to Japan next October.

Teenmum60 · 07/05/2018 20:18

Sandy - My DD is also going on a trip to Japan next October ..although its Art and Business - DD doing neither at A Level but she was really keen to go to Japan so she is gatecrashing!

DD would state that we tend to have emotional nuisances in our house because I tend to dog sit for needy dogs on a regular basis - I have been banned from letting any dogs come and stay during the exam period. DD does have a pygmy hedgehog but its asleep most of the day so little help during exams.

I thought it was Saturday today ...sadly its Tuesday tomorrow Sad.

sandybayley · 07/05/2018 21:01

I'd love to host rescue dogs. DDog is a rescue and he has brought such happiness. He was fostered before we got him and I am so grateful to those people who gave him a home.

Meant to say that DS is 'also looking forward' not 'less looking forward' to Japan. They're very lucky DC to have the chance to go there - it's an amazing country and he'll got some insight into tech. He's doing Maths, Chemistry, History and Physics A Level with a view to chemical engineering or chemistry.

FreshTart · 07/05/2018 21:29

First Maths numeracy paper here tomorrow (WJEC). DD just doing a timed past paper and after a few tears today, I think she might have passed the worst bit. She's convinced she wont sleep tonight so I'm prepared for very little sleep too. DS is meant to be revising for his A levels but today is the first day he has picked up his books, whereas DD has been busy revising hard for weeks. She has another Maths Numeracy paper and 2 Welsh Language exams this week aswell, going to be a rough ride until Saturday!

AlwaysHiding · 07/05/2018 22:41

Very poorly daughter here with a chronic health condition that is worsening daily. I honestly don’t know how we’re going to get her through the next few weeks.

Study leave has been approved, with supporting medical evidence and shorter school days also authorised this week.

She’s doing what she can, when she can but I would give anything for a healthy teen with nothing else to worry about than these bloody exams as it’s just so hard to see how brave she’s having to be.

At this stage, the reality could be a hospital admission for surgery and I’m beginning to panic (privately, so she can’t tell).

RosieLig · 07/05/2018 23:07

@Alwayshiding Flowers I hope your daughter is OK, how worrying for you.

My good friend missed her GCSEs as she was diagnosed with cancer a few months before they started. The school agreed to let her go straight to A level the following year (equivalent- not in England) based on her class work/prelim marks rather than repeat the year.

hmcAsWas · 07/05/2018 23:19

Good luck to your dd "freshtart"

Hoping that your dd's health doesn't deteriorate further Alwayshiding - it must be very difficult Sad

hmcAsWas · 07/05/2018 23:19

bold typeface fail - freshtart

Cherryburn · 08/05/2018 06:20

AlwaysHiding I'm so sorry to hear that your DD is so unwell. That must be really tough and puts all this exam angst into perspective. Flowers for you and for her. I hope things improve.

KingscoteStaff · 08/05/2018 07:24

Thoughts to you, AlwaysHiding - how strong your DD must be to be concentrating at all on the exams.

LooseAtTheSeams · 08/05/2018 07:27

Freshtart good luck with numeracy today!
Alwayshiding your poor dd.Thanks for both of you.

stickerrocks · 08/05/2018 07:44

Always all the GCSEs in the world are useless to your DD if she isn't fit & well enough to make use of them. What she has learnt will always stick with her and there are a lot more ways than a few exam passes to enjoy your l8fe. Best wishes.

Fresh pob lwc winging your DD's way. I regularly teach post grads who still can't work out 10% of something.

mmzz · 08/05/2018 08:13

Alwayshiding my heart goes out to you and your DD
