Am I the only one that's becoming a bit hypochondriac about DCS falling ill

I wasn't until you wrote that! The thing that makes me wince is that DS is playing football - on concrete - every school break and lunchtime. Just before the mocks, he fell and it looked like he'd fractured his wrist (luckily it turned out to be only a sprain), but suddenly I was having to scramble to get the school to think of ways to let him do his mocks one-handed.

It turned out they couldn't think of a good way. they just wanted him to either use the broken hand or write and type left-handed.
So now, I am trying to rationalise with myself that playing football this week is a risk worth taking.

Hope the oral has gone well Teen. Am sure it has.

Brainmelt I'm paranoid about illness in the next couple of months too! DS was complaining he had a headache last night and I immediately felt panic for Wednesday.

brainmelt · 30/04/2018 10:23

Sorry mmzz forget I said anything 😨😀!

AlexanderHamilton · 30/04/2018 11:11

Yes. Dd struggled into school on Friday but she still isn’t right. Dh had a similar flu type virus over half term & he spent an entire week in bed & it took him 10 days to fully recover. Dd hasn’t got that luxury.

brainmelt · 30/04/2018 12:03

Your DD is younger alex so hopefully she will beat the bug faster Flowers

LooseAtTheSeams · 30/04/2018 12:26

DS had a cold all weekend and ran off to school this morning without a coat. Lucky it's not far!
Speedy recoveries to all and yes, I keep worrying about bugs, too!

stickerrocks · 30/04/2018 13:30

We banned DD from track cycling at the velodrome from the end of Feb onwards in case of broken bones. She was cycling with a lot of MAMILs (middle aged men in lycra!) and I became paranoid about one of them landing on her.

I think we all formed an orderly queue with the exam officer this morning. They have checked and double checked and she is definitely entered in the correct name.

mmzz · 30/04/2018 14:09

Stickerrocks, in that case why did they send the document home on Friday with the wrong name?

OP posts:
stickerrocks · 30/04/2018 14:41

Apparently they are going to send home another version with

stickerrocks · 30/04/2018 14:46

...the official GCSE certificate names on now for checking. Perhaps they thought the tutors wouldn't cope & realise that they had to give the timetable to Lottie Brown if it was under the name of Charlotte Brown-Piggins.

KingscoteStaff · 30/04/2018 16:29

At least the weather is being kind to our hay fever sufferers.

mmzz sadly DS’s Edexcel Sciences are the IGCSEs with complete overlap on the two papers.

mmzz · 30/04/2018 16:30

KingscoteStaff that's a shame.

Those students not doing the iGCSEs have 2 weeks left before the official start date.

DS has RE 2 weeks today. Its his first exam and the revising is not going well. He just doesn't buy into a lot of it (its the RC specification and he's an atheist), so he is struggling to commit it to memory. I think he needs to get tactical and just study the bits that are most likely to come up and most likely to get him marks. That's what I would have done in my exam-taking days. However, I have no idea what those are for RE, and being the first ever exams, I'm not sure anyone does. ^^

OP posts:
AlexanderHamilton · 30/04/2018 16:38

Dd’s First exam is RE in two weeks too but she’s doing Christianity/Islam. She’s revising Islam more as she feels that’s where her knowledge is lacking. It’s her favourite subject & she’s hoping for an 8 (maybe even a 9). She’s an atheist too.

Cherryburn · 30/04/2018 16:46

mmzz what board is the RS?

brainmelt · 30/04/2018 17:06

DS equivalent to your lovely wall posters, charts, flash cards, colourful pens and brain maps.

brainmelt is that chair converted from a tripp trapp chair (or similar?). My children are using theirs as desk chairs.

TheSecondOfHerName · 30/04/2018 17:50

This is the side of DS2's bed. The pieces of paper are revision 'posters' covered with teeny tiny writing that only he can read.

brainmelt · 30/04/2018 18:02

thesecond yes it is. Lovely coincidence. Same chair, different methods...Grin

EllenJanethickerknickers · 30/04/2018 18:05

Hmm, DS3 seems to just have a pile of fairly pristine revision guides.

His first exam is computing on 14th May as well. Shock

BlueBelle123 · 30/04/2018 18:36

Another one here with CS on the 14th, DS said its the exam he's most prepared for which is funny as he loathes the subject and keeps threatening to burn the revision guide once its over.......lucky it will all be done and dusted in the first week!!

TheSecondOfHerName · 30/04/2018 18:42

DS2 also has Computer Science on the 14th, scheduled for the same time as his first Latin paper. They've arranged for him to do one then the other; hopefully he'll get a short (supervised, no access to internet or other candidates) break between the two.

Teenmum60 · 30/04/2018 18:52

I was too nervous to ask DD to text me after the Oral to say how it went ...I knew I had a very long work day too ...so DD's DF was picking her up from school and giving her tea...I was very thankful for a call at 5 pm to say the Oral had gone well (just one blip when she used an incorrect word but corrected herself)- she got a high five from the teacher which is an achievement within itself.

Sorry to hear of the unwell DC's....also very grateful that hayfever is not too bad yet ...DD still has it mild, I'm struggling because of the tree pollen (who would have thought that someone would have hayfever so bad when they were brought up on a farm!)

I remember the tripp trapp chairs too...14th next exam for DD too - Computer Science.

WhatsForTeaaa · 30/04/2018 19:07

DS's first exam is Religious Studies (AQA). He's doing Christianity and Islam, and is an atheist. He hates it. His teacher hasn't taught them anything, and he just isn't interested in "this bollocks" Blush He's hoping for a 7.

He's most nervous for the Sciences and Maths - He's been getting 8's and 9's all year, and is terrified of messing up.
