Waldegrave School

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of Waldegrave School. We are moving to Strawberry Hill and wondered if that would be a good school to send our daughters to. They are both quite academic and sporty. One is very shy and not very confident.

I don't have personal experience but live in the area. From what I hear, it is an excellent school. Places are highly sought after so look carefully at the catchment area on the council website before you buy a house.

Thanks so much. That's really great advice. Do you really like the area?

It's an outstanding school & lovely area but you will find property prices in the area are linked to the catchment of the school. Turing House and Teddington School are some of the other state options. If you are catholic Richard Reynolds in Twickenham is a good option. The whole Twickenham/teddington area is full of private & state school options but apart from the Grammars in Kingston Waldegrave is one of the most sought after schools.

Just to echo what others have said; the school has a great rep, but you have to have your witts about you when buying a house - they go very quickly. Be ready to move quickly when you find somewher!

I have 2 DDs there (hopefully a DS in September too). It's a really great school. One is sporty, both are pretty bright. It suits them both well. Strawberry Hill is nice. Very leafy and pleasant. It's a bit dull (if you are an inner city type like me) but there are lots of good things about living here. The main one being the schools and stuff for DC to do.

There are 2 catchment areas for Waldegrave in case you didn't know already. One is around Waldegrave and the other starts just before Richmond Bridge and extends into Richmond. My DDs have friends that live there and go to the school. The council admissions website has is a map which is worth looking at as the catchment is very tight and you want to make sure you buy/rent in the right place.

That’s great. Thank you. We are also moving from inner city and I was thinking about how different it might feel. I was keen for my DDs to be able to walk to school and have friends in the local area. Do the advantages tend to outweigh anything else? Thank you so much everyone for you really helpful posts. We’ve lived where we are for the past 10 years so it feels like a big move.
