Seneca Learn

Has anyone's DC been using Seneca Learn for GCSE preparation? DS1 has been using it and has found it extremely useful - better than the CGP guides in many cases. I am really impressed with it, but I'd be interested to hear other opinions.

My son wasn't impressed.

He said it was like 'Bitesize lite'.

Same. Much prefers Tassomai- thinks the content is more accurate, likes the format, and being able to choose laptop or phone makes it more flexible.

DS hasn't used Tassomai (its quite expensive, I thought?), but i've heard very good things about it.
So, he didn't have it to compare Seneca with. He thinks Seneca is good though (but only as a way to revise, not as a way to learn in the first place).

I suppose they all learn differently. Mine makes copious notes to learn, Tassomai to check (averaging above 90% correct across the 3), 8-9 booster books for practice questions and later will get on to practice papers.
I don’t mind paying for it if he uses it, we’ve only had it a couple of weeks and it’s time limited.

I could buy Tassomai for the next two months, but isn't it getting a bit late? DS seems to be doing fine with what he's got for sciences (7/8s) but he is expected to get 9s, so I don't know.

If he’s happy with Seneca there’s no need to change it.
Mine just prefers Tassomai. He’s very independent and a bit particular about which resources are useful. He did well (8/9s and all over 90%) in both sets of mocks pre-Tassomai so for him I think it’s just something to keep him ticking over.

Sorry to but in @Ahbut (mmzz)...but just wondered what progress your DS had made on Tassomai (DD used Tassomai for Chemistry for a short period up until mocks in January but then we unsubscribed). We subscribed for Biology 15 days ago and she has made 58% progress with about 78% coverage but only 30% complete (assume that there will be the odd repeat questions which is why its only showing 30% complete). She's high 80's in terms of % question correct but this is just Biology..I'm hoping that she can complete the remainder in next two weeks with the view that we then subscribe to Physics and then blitz the paper 1 quiz's during exam leave. Just wondered how progress compared with your DS?

DD is still using Seneca for History but she also feels that it goes off topic.

AhBut · 20/04/2018 22:08

I don’t seem to see all those different figures on Tassomai, I just see % covered per paper and % correct. Must be missing something?
Sounds similar. He’s done half of each biology paper and about a third of both physics. He’s consistently 93% correct across both. I’ve just bought chemistry so not really got going on that one.
I’ve no idea how or if it correlates to exam performance though; they definitely need the other types of resources too I think.

Under usage - you should see a big circle on the right which shows % progress overall (DD 58%)- then in swim lanes you can see a long line which is partly dark blue (completed) lighter bluish progress and further lighter colour is coverage (white is not covered). I was just wondering whether it slowed down the nearer you get to 100% because she has done amazing in just 15 days.

She is doing past papers most weeks/marking and reading examiners reports (she's used revision books too). It should be interesting to see what grade she gets in the Biology past paper two she did on Wednesday in school...she felt comfortable with it and said Tassomai helped. She is doing IGCSE though so the syllabus has not changed and its old grading (A*-G)

AhBut · 20/04/2018 22:43

Oh thanks, I see it now .... I was logged in as him Shock He’s at 26% - he’s has biology 2 weeks, physics a bit less and just started chemistry tonight. If you log in as your child you can see the exact progress per paper.

Teenmum60 · 20/04/2018 23:27

That sounds about the same pace because DD is only working on just Biology whereas your DS is working on two (now three). You can see progress on parent too on the two papers and also by topics - just click on topics - It is done quite well..although I cannot understand why they dont suggest working on all paper one topics first then paper two giving timing difference of virtually 1 month between the two dates.
