How late can you pull out of Art GCSE and not get a fail?

Hi... DD really behind on this and her exam is in early May...

We're keen to support her in catching up on her portfolio/preparatory work during the holidays but may just reach a point of saying, lets stop and pull out so she can focus time on revising for other GCSEs... Am I right in thinking she can pull out right until the day of the exam WITHOUT it going down as a Fail... i.e. she just appears to take the other 9 GCSEs and is marked in those?

Quick responses hugely appreciated - at the mo, the school know we're doing everything we can to support her, but if I need to ask them (which I'd prefer not to!) tomorrow is last chance before holidays start!

Pearson/Edexcel say this on their website:

You can withdraw entries up to 14 days before the results are published, provided that the candidate has not sat the examination or test, or in the case of a centre assessed unit, the candidate has not sat any of the examined units in the same subject. Unfortunately, we can't refund entry fees if the candidate is withdrawn on or after the 'high late fee' date.

You have to make sure she is actually properly withdrawn by the school and doesn’t just not turn up for the exam. The school may charge you the exam entry fee.

When is her art exam? DD had hers approx two months before others started, so she put everything into the art coursework and preparation which had to be done before exam, knowing she could the focus on revision.

Has her teacher given her marks as she gone along doing each piece? If she's getting decent assessed grades for what she's done so far, it'd be a shame to pull out.

Thanks all.... exams are two days after her history and one day before her English! She seems to have been graded on some work and not the rest, actually only got 5 grades from first two terms and one from last term on another piece... not sure why... but mainly hasn't finished!

We are definitely going with the Do it for fun and keep going so long as you are enjoying - but if its stressing you we stop!

And yes, I am pissed off with the teacher for crushing her confidence which we now need to rebuild - she has done some really gorgeous work, but it does take her a long time....

Its a nightmare isn't it. I feel dd's art has taken over many school hols/half terms trying to keep head above water. So many other homeworks constantly and interventions/revision sessions for other subjects to attend, time always runs out or the best natural light. She still has art pieces from over 12 mths ago and is also quite slow or not always in the mood for it. Suffers back issues too which doesnt help.
Some final pieces were shown to the teacher recently and for some reason 2 were not right, I don't think dd knows why or has gone off on tangent but with the backlog dd has said she is not redoing them. I hope it will be okay Confused I just don't think she can manage much more. Just wish the teacher had looked before dd had spent so many painstaking hours/days/weeks on it.
Its going to be art art and art through easter, so your dd is not alone in the struggle. We know ds took it many years before and desperately wanted to give up but carried on and got a grade so was worth it in the end. Dd was warned not to take it but was hugely interested and made her own choice but it has just been too time consuming. Like yourself the other gcse's are more important for what she wants to do. However they have come so far. Dd's exam is end of April so a little earlier than your dd's.

yup.... I am pretty sure she wouldn't have chosen it if she knew then what she knows now..... just want to get her back into the enjoying it space, because that was what it was all about....
