Anyone out there have girls in the 6th form at Tormead? Was just wondering why so many leave. Is it mainly the co-ed thing? Results look quite good considering its a small cohort ?chemistry/economics weak but that could be just because of numbers

Apparently around half the year group leave at the end of Year 11 - and that matches up to their leavers destinations which shows around 45-50 girls' universities.
Tormead is a very nice girls school for your 11 year old. Often a first choice and also often picked as a back up to GHS or St Cats. By the time the girls get to 16 it doesn't offer much 'extra' so lots go off to Sixth Form College (no fees), more academic schools or co-ed public schools. The site is being completely re-done which may improve things but I always found it cramped when I was there. It has a bit of a marmite reputation.
It is also a domino effect. As the trend is for many to leave, more girls then don't want to stay as lots of their friends are going and so on.

The site has actually already been redone, sixth form centre also redone with its own cafe, all looks great. Lots of opportunities at sixth form, links with RGS and fantastic attentive teaching. Far more girls staying this year. Of those who leave it is mostly because they want to try college and/or schools with boys. Often they’ve been at the school since reception and feel it’s time for a change. In the past some have returned a few weeks/month into term having regretted their choice - grass is not always greener and boys can be a major distraction!

My DD year 10 is definitely staying for 6th Form. Very happy with the school and now it is completely redone it is a very nice environment to work (and play) in. As a previous messager stated, there are a number of reasons girls leave. As a school which attracts a wider range of girls at 11, many from state schools, some families just cannot afford to keep girls into the 6th Form. Some want to leave as they have been there all their lives, some to experience co-ed colleges. The 6th form actually can only accommodate 50/60 girls, they (the school) feel that a higher number would take away from the individual attention the girls access. Personally I think that is a good reason to stay.
