History of Art A level? Well regarded?

Dd2 is in year 10 but thinking about A levels as this will effect where she goes for 6th form. She definitely wants to do English Literature and Design Tech (textiles). She's considering history for the third, but her current school gets excellent results for art history (16 took it and there were 3 Bs and the rest A* or a, so she's thinking about that instead. She's concerned that it would be seen as a weak subject along with textiles.

Does she have a career in mind at all?

History of Art & Textiles sounds like it could be a good combination for e.g. historical restoration or something, or costumes for period dramas.

I would say it would be considered a weaker subject unless she wanted to do something related at university.

IMHO if in doubt stick to “core” subjects.

She wants to work on films possibly as a costumier

Religious Studies is the other subject she is keen on. Not sure whether that is more 'highly regarded'?

If she wants to do a degree, check the requirements for possible courses.
If she doesn't then 'highly regarded' is probably neither here nor there.

This subject was due to be axed when A levels were reformed but there was a last minute reprieve and it has been redeveloped as a new Linear A level by Pearson (Edexcel).
When looking as past results you will need to bear in mind that the results for previous cohorts will be for the old AS/A2 courses which would have had coursework for this subject and exams would be spread out over both Y12 and 13. Assessments for the new linear course may still contain some coursework but there will be more exams.
I would make sure that the course content is something that she is interested in and could do well at rather than just looking at past results!

RS or Theology and Philosophy or Philosophy and Ethics ( all seem to me to be pretty much the same course by a different name ( by exam board etc) is a well regarded subject. But then I would have said History of Art was. History could be another good one for her , given her interest.
I would agree with PP - go wth her interest rather than what previous pupils got in their own exams.

History of Art sounds a brilliant choice for the career she has in mind. My daughter just finished a combined degree in Fine Art and History of Art
I worry that it’s not a highly regarded but she was always heading for the Arts and has loved her time at Uni.
Currently living in a dump but with two p/t jobs and an internship. Usual for nowadays - time if her life!!

Do you need to do History of Art at A'level to study History of Art at Uni?
Quite frankly i'd always err on the side of caution and stick to good old traditional subjects, if she like History then do History A'level not of art because at A'level standard its neither here nor there. Its like doing an A'level in Law to study Law. If she's aiming high, the top unis much prefer you stick to good old facilitating subjects.
