Art GCSE help please

My DD is in year 11 at an “outstanding”comprehensive and doing her GCSEs this year (10 subjects). She is predicted mainly 7s and 8s but has just had her art coursework mark of 4 (she was predicted 7 for art). She is hoping to study medicine so needs good grades. Her art teacher went on maternity leave a year ago and since then she has had 2 supply teachers, the most recent of whom started in September. At parents evening at the end of October he didn’t seem to know who she was and was unable to offer any tailored advice. Her previous art coursework mark was a 6 but I think this later one is the one that counts but not really sure? Please can anyone offer any advice about what to do?

Would it be better for her to withdraw from art or is it too late for that? I will contact the head on Monday but would really appreciate some advice on how best to approach this. Thanks very much.

I think you need to contact the art teacher and find out what she needs to do to improve her marks. There is quite specific criteria that people gave to demonstrate, and she may just need a bit of guidance.

Sorry, 'have to demonstrate '

I agree that you should contact the head Monday. If as you say your daughter has only had supply teachers for art who don't seem to know their pupils, for the past year then I would express your concerns about this to the head - he may or may not be aware of the situation in the art department. Then I ask to would meet with art teacher in case there are things that your daughter could improve on.

My granddaughter was given lower than originally predicted grades at her A level by a supply teacher who didn't know her and it almost affected her getting offers from her choices of uni - fortunately she spoke to her head (of college) and it was all rectified but it nearly lost her the chance to do the degree of her choice at the uni of her choice and, as she said it's her future

Thank you both very much for your advice. I will email the head tomorrow and take it from there.

If she is doing 10 subjects, then see if she can drop art. Or at least not enter the exam.
