possible anxiety/sickness at secondary school?

my dd (age 11) started secondary in sept and seems to have settled well...made a lot of friends, getting on well with homework and school work etc, but during the half term from oct-xmas she had 3 separate bouts of sickness. Each time on a school day (either first thing or whilst at school) and each time only vomits once, then within a couple of hours is fine and asking for food! I put this down to a bit of a stubborn bug and her being tired/run down with managing her new busier school day.
Over the xmas hols she has been absolutely fine, no complaints, full of beans and I've started giving her a multi vitamin every day to give her system a boost.

Today was her first day back at school and she was complaining this morning that she felt sick again...she has gone to school ok (no tears and did manage a bit of breakfast) but I worry if she will be poorly again at school and also about the amount of lessons she keeps missing.

I'm starting to wonder if its a nervous/anxiety problem, rather than a physical illness? She appears happy and settled at school with no problems and I have obviously spoken to her about any thing troubling her and she is usually very open with me/her dad/grandparents.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Yes - I used to have this when I started school. It’s nerves - some of us get it in our stomachs. Other kids get bad headaches etc. It eases with time don’t worry. After each holiday it can kick in again.

Thanks for your reply. She was the same again this morning...complaining of feeling sick.

She's adamant she isn't worried about anything at school and said the feeling had gone by the end of her 1st lesson yesterday.

Is there any way of controlling nerves like this?

I’d say deep breathing, a nice cup of tea in the calm. Or little sips of water. She probably doesn’t link it to anxiety - it’s a subconscious thing. There are things like Rescue Remedy - my friend swears by that when she’s feeling anxious.

Thanks Finegan, I definitely think its a subconscious thing...
