Afternoon 11+ exams

Hi there

DC has a couple of afternoon 11+ exams each consisting of English, Maths and VR. In addition, they start around 2pm, finishing 5/5.30pm. They may also need to attend 2/3 sports scholarship days and two further morning exams.

Should I keep DC at home (ie not send them to school) the mornings when they have afternoon exams? Just think they may need to rest-up.

Thanks!

Why would they need to not go to school in the morning? Our year 6 pupils finish lessons at 5pm normally anyway, so it’s not like finishing exams then is that much of a hardship. At school they will be distracted by lessons apetc and probably be more relaxed than being at home worrying!

I'm letting DD decide- we need to have lunch, leave enough time to get there etc so not a huge point in going in. Have said she can go in until first break if she wants but I have to take her sibling to school anyway and we are 5 mins away.
One of her afternoon exams is the day after another exam and she will have had another earlier in the week ( 3 next week!) so I think she will be tired.

If you think your child will perform best if they have a quiet morning at home, then do that. If you think sticking to routine will be better, do that.

Don't worry what anyone else thinks. This test is a one time only shot, so do what you think will maximise chances.

All good advice, thank you!

DC doesn't display any external signs of nerves, but god knows what is happening inside! I didn't consider the benefits of routine / being with friends to take her mind of it , but I think rest is also a good idea. I think if DC is up in time, I will take her to school for a bit, but if not, then I'll let her sleep-in, particularly as she has a full day of exams / assessments the day before an afternoon exam.

Seems to be a good compromise and means I can assess how she is on the day.

Thank you!
